Oh, I'm so sorry! What a let-down.

That is ridiculous that childless freelancers are a red flag. I am a childless freelancer too. Well, I'm sure that Britain is a safer place because childless freelancers aren't allowed to visit and spend the money they earned freelancing. Argh.

What ???
It must be so disappointing Maneera I'm sorry for you!
(I was already surprised you needed a visa, now I'm dumbfounded to learn it's not a simple formality either. Probably all Europeans will be submitted to the same process after Brexit is effective).

I hope you have a marvelous, restorative, holiday in Thailand.

I'm sorry Maneera. But I'm glad to hear you're looking forward to your Thailand trip!

Bummer. That sucks. So disappointing!

Look on the bright side. Northern Europe is having a terrible summer and the UK is looking very weird from here right now. Thailand on the other hand has great food, friendly people and excellent beaches. I bet you'll have a wonderful holiday.

Oh, no, Maneera, I am so sorry to hear this!

If it were possible I would send you a true Italian pizza margherita to console you!

Cannot the company for which you husband works do anything to help?

Isabelle & Rio - thank you so much. You're both real darlings

Astrid - I am looking forward to Thailand now

Gigi - yes I suppose lack of foreign childless freelancers makes UK safer! Bleh!

Sisi - you're a real doll. That PIZZA will make me VERY VERY VERY happy Actually just thinking about it helps!

How very awful and disappointing. I know you are feeling better today and that's good, but this was still a blow. At least your pal at the consulate was able to give you a rough idea of the reasons, even thought they don't seem very rational. Your husband, who works out visas for his employees (as you said), sounds like he IS the expert in his company on this so the two of you did everything you could.

Excellent choice to go to Thailand instead. Never been there but hear it is gorgeous, and I am totally with you on loving to be near the ocean. You deserve it!

oh….so so sorry….i hate it when you make plans, are looking forward to it, and then, bam…something you have no control over makes your plans go array.

and, i'm appalled at how ignorant i am…..i really had no idea that traveling from India to England would require a visa! really no idea, i just assumed that as the 2 country's where, well…once "very close", no visa would be required. hmmm, guess the "breakup" was more bitter than i thought.

That stinks in the worst possible way. I've never travelled anywhere I've needed a Visa, so I have no experience with this, but based on the reasons you were denied, I would most likely be denied. My Mom likes to say things happen for a reason and your 'plan b' trip sounds lovely! Enjoy every minute!

Oh, so disappointing!

But you will love Thailand! Just watch out because once that part of the world gets its teeth in your heart it doesn't let go!

Sharing in your disappointment. Hope you can enjoy Thailand without feeling too heart sick. Seems from your other thread that you have a lovely trip ahead of you.

It occurrs to me you might try again and put down 'business owner' and 'documentation services.' I remember when I was going to China being told 'writer' was a bad idea...too much like 'troublemaking journalist.'

Wow, I feel like an oblivious American right about now.
It has never occurred to me that people are denied visa's for reasons other than criminal background, or that you can't call anywhere in the world except maybe North Korea, etc.

I'm so sorry you can't go with your husband on his trip, follow through on your plans, etc.

I think I'd enjoy Thailand. I love a good swim.

Have a wonderful and relaxing trip.

Manny, I am so sorry to hear this. I've only just caught up on the thread, so apologies for being very late. I was so looking forward to our mini-meet up with Di.

I am pleased that you have another trip planned.
