Haircut with a Different Stylist

I always like to go a bit shorter in summer, so I thought it was time for a pixie bob. Currently, my regular hairstylist is on maternity leave, so I've been seeing this new stylist for my last couple of cuts. Its always dicey going to someone different that's for sure. She's really nice, but boy, she sure takes a long time to cut my hair and each time my hair always ends up looking a little bit different. Oddly enough, my old stylist happen to be visiting the salon today while on leave and surprisingly, this new stylist asked her for some tips on how she's typically cuts my hair. It all went well but it took almost an hour and 20 minutes to complete this cut and style and my hair wasn't that long to begin with.

Curious to know how often you've ended up having to see a different stylist for one reason or another? Were you happy with how it all went?
Also wondering how long it typically takes your stylist to do just cut and style?

Super cute! An hour and twenty minutes is far too long! Mine takes under half an hour.

A year or two ago I quit the hairstylist I’d been going to for twenty years. She never thought about my cut, just kept doing it shorter and shorter, and I started going to a friend’s stylist. It feels like she’s actually thinking about it.

I love your new cut ! It’s so sharp and flattering - shows off your long neck . As to seeing a new stylist - I’ve done so twice in the nearlt 25 yrs I’ve being seeing mine and didn’t love it enough to permanently switch . My cut takes maybe 40 minutes at the most - if there is no colour or toner involved . I’d lose my mind if it took as long as yours did . Surprised their booking system allots that much time for a cut !

ETA: I've been going to the same hair stylist for 22 years. She's brilliant! Not switching. She had me go to substitutes she works closely with during her operations and radiation treatments. They were good. I wasn't unhappy. But they weren't Teresa! When she retires in a few years - we'll see what happens....

I went to 3 hair stylists in the last 10 years. The first one was conveniently located and the cuts were ok but not the best. I found a new salon and went there for a while. Had to find a different one during my recovery from a broken leg, couldn’t do their stairs. I found a new stylist at the salon on a ground floor and have been happy with him for the last 4 years. I stopped getting my hair cut this year. Want to grow out the layers.

The new haircut is so pretty on you. As others said it really show cases your long neck, simply lovely.

A cut, wash, and blow dry takes under an hour for me. When my hair was colored and I also did highlights it would take a few hours. But my hair was also a lot longer then too.

I haven’t found a stylist I like for a while. I tried one a few years ago when I first moved but hated the cut so I never went back. Then I cut my own hair for a few years. The past couple of years I’ve gotten haircuts on the cruise ship while vacationing with my sister. A spa trip while onboard has become our thing when we travel together but that’s only once or twice a year.

I should probably try to find another local person / place but I’ve been too lazy to do so. A good hairstylist is so hard to find and a bad cut takes forever to grow out. Your lucky you have a stylist you like!

JAILEEN- I've had that happen to me too, had one hairstylist years ago who just kept cutting my hair shorter each time, and the last time I saw her, she looked like she had barely slept and was yawning the whole time. It certainly wasn't my best haircut.
LJP- This stylist is new to the salon's roster, so she's pretty much just starting out. She's very careful and precise and that's why its taking so long, plus she didn't have another client booked after me. My old stylist on maternity leave usually had me in and out in less than 40 minutes
ANGIE- Wow, the same great stylist for 22 years, how wonderful.
IRINA- Terrific that foot surgery lead you to find a new stylist that you were happy with. Good luck growing your hair out.

I've been going to the same stylist for more than a decade. I started going to a single-stylist salon shortly after I moved here, in 2008. That stylist brought in a couple of others before closing the business and moving. One of those stylists is the one I have been going to ever since. My regular shampoo, cut and blow-dry (with a diffuser) takes 45 to 50 minutes.

Love your haircut! But would absolutely go crazy if mine took that long. Typical for me is about 40 minutes. I prefer to stick to one hairdresser but circumstance made me change a few times in recent years. I am very happy with my current one and hope to stay with her for a long time.

Your new cut looks both sleek and thick, and frames your face perfectly, as Sharan said. I had the same stylist for years, and she was fantastic with color, but eventually I wanted a bit more edgy style, and she just couldn't get there. When COVID struck, and we all stayed home, a friend recommended another place. Eventually I went there, LOVED the haircut, and never went back to my former stylist (who I know still has her successful salon). And I never got professional color again - it always made me so antsy to sit in the chair for more than an hour.

Since I've moved a number of times, I've had to change stylists over the years, but once i find a good one -- I stick with her (or him). In fact, I go all the way to Vancouver for my haircuts because I love my current stylist so much. I've been going to her since 2018. During the pandemic and when she was off with an injury, I tried several others both at her salon and here, in Victoria, and while the cuts were okay, they were nowhere on the same level and the grow out was not as seamless.

Anyway, this is an old habit of mine. For years I travelled from Kingston, Ontario to Montreal or Toronto for my haircuts. It may sound crazy but you probably get it. When your hair is short, the right cut is key.

My current stylist is fast and efficient. She usually takes 45 minutes to cut my hair. Rarely, it might take an hour if we are doing something different and need to discuss. One of the stylists I saw in Victoria took an hour and a half because he was teaching someone while cutting my hair.

I have been going to the same chain for I think at least a decade or more. My reasoning is that it is close to me (a nearby mall), reasonably cheap, you don’t need an appointment, open all weekend, and now they also have a reliable app which tells me the wait time, if that’s an hour I can stay home for most of that hour as about 5-10 minutes to drive there. So it means I don’t always get the same stylist, but often I do. Currently there are 4 of them and last cut I realised all 4 have now cut my pixie. I like 2 of the stylists very well and the other 2 have done an OK job, they’re all careful and it takes, IDK, maybe 20-30 minutes? That’s cut only, I go with clean and conditioned hair and show a photo of the previous cut looking good so they can compare. Now that I am 65 it is cheaper as well! Reduced to $35 on certain days from adult price $45. I’m happy.
