So I thank you for advance for your help.
A little background about my experience before I go into this. I went to cosmetology school 4 years ago, and worked in two salons as an assistant specializing in hair color. Before I made it completely to the floor I changed my career path. I still do my friends and families hair and am always successful. I don't have as much experience as some of you so I am hoping you've seen this and can help me understand why this happened!
So I have a friend who started off as a natural level 6 with a reddish tint. She wanted to slowly become blond so we highlighted with bleach a few times, and then used a level 9 color on the rest when she was sure she wanted to go blond. For her touch ups I would just use bleach and put some highlights in. She recently decided she wanted to go back to her darker level. ( She had about 4" level 6 roots with the rest being a level 9). The first thing I did was bleach out her roots so that I could get an all over even color. The next thing I did was apply a level 7 R/O to fill the blond. I left it in for about 5-7 minutes. It did not get as dark and I thought it would, but it did its job filling the blond, so I went ahead and applied the level 6N hair color. We left it on for about 35 minutes. We washed out the color, and her hair was at about a level 8 R/O still. The color barely took AT ALL. Well she panicked and it was a Sunday and nothing was open so she insisted on FARIA box color. We got a level 5 hoping that it would do the trick. We left the color on for 35 minutes and the color looked MUCH darker than the first one. When she went and rinsed her hair- she was between a level 6 and 7. Its like her hair WONT take the color. I have seen hair soak up color, or be resistant to bleach- but NEVER bleached porous hair reject any color. I hope its not a simple thing that I am being ignorant about, but does anyone know WHY this would happpen?!?!? Thank you so much for your time!
