The holidays have thrown me a couple of curve balls: most notably my father's hospitalization. Tomorrow, I'll head back down to help out, just after finishing my teaching semester. I'm grateful that it appears he will make a complete recovery.

Today, for some teaching and cramming in some Christmas shopping, I found inspiration in Angie's post on Red. I started with my new-this-season ponte jacket my Merona for Target. I've had great luck with ponte from Target in past years. This jacket isn't trendy, but I like its true blue-red color and longer length and the stretch is great for an active day.

I paired the jacket with a cherry blossom silky shell and some sparkly jewelry.( my necklace broke this afternoon -- so sad) The look is grounded with long, but simple black skinnies and booties.

The reds are not a perfect match. Do you find the variation in tone pleasing, or would you have chosen to pair it with a black blazer, as I did last year (photo 3). My white jeans are in the wash, but I may well wear this pairing with white bottoms in the next couple of weeks.

Photo 4: This is the fortune I received with my lunch today. My kids are sad. They would have preferred: "Your generosity will bring great reward!"
