Shevia: In my first music therapy job, I regularly ran a group with an OT. It was a marvelous combination. I do think they often work in an almost tumble gym sort of setting these days, particularly when working with kids with sensory issues. My work does involve marching and dancing (woohoo) sometimes, along with instrument shlepping. Most of the time, I work at a table, at least part of the session. It gives a structure to the session, and allows a place for the keyboard, drums, etc. I think my dress and leggings look would work really well for the days I work with little kids (most are teens).
Denise: Ooh yes, the white pants are only for client meetings at this point. I will have days that they might work, depending on the clients (kids often mean sitting on the carpet) and, saying this gently, the house I'm in! There are pristine homes, where wearing shoes would be a sacrilege, and I try so hard not to scrape the wall with my drum or guitar bag, and then, there are houses where the family is working hard just to get through the day -- with some of their challenges I get that -- I just choose not to sit on the floor! (Oh, and the compliment was really sweet. I attribute it to good lighting!)
Lyn: Thanks for affirming my time spent thinking things through! I am not really analytical, but my theatrical bent lends itself to evaluating communication between people and environments. I wouldn't make an accountant or manager, but I'm quick to read and respond to a situation (hopefully most managers have that trait, too).
