For All The Navy At NAS

Hi,

I'm seeing lots of navy at this year's NAS and am curious....for everyone planning to (or have already bought) navy items, what color shoes are you planning to wear with your new pieces?

Black?
Navy?
Silver?
Cognac?
Burgundy?
Something else?

I mostly wear taupe and pewter with my navy, black in the winter when I'm wearing a navy or black top.

I wear all the options you listed above depending on what other colors I have in the outfit besides navy. I am working on building a collection of navy shoes but it is hard. Most of what I have is navy suede and I'd really like some navy leather.

Most of my summer wardrobe is based on navy as a neutral. I have several navy shoes (pumps, flats, loafers) and of course white (sneakers, sandals). My actual boat shoes are pale grey suede.

I used to love wearing taupe sandals with navy, until they fell apart and their replacement was uncomfortable. I miss them less since I discovered cognac. I love how the warmth and brightness complements navy.

Oh yes, red. Perfect with some outfits, too much with others, depends on mood and desired effect.

Almost forgot my mint suede driving loafers -- must pull them out again!
Oh yes and the leopard ballet flats (the combo garners compliments from my colleague who wears Louboutins and Jimmy Choos.) And pewter...

So basically, everything. I haven't mentioned black, cordovan, darker grey, but mostly because in my wardrobe those are shoes for cooler weather. I'll wear them with my navy in the fall though.

I ordered a lot of navy, and I have a couple pairs of navy boots. But I also have grey and metallic.

ETA: also cognac.

I'm lightening up my color palette and venturing away from navy, though I did just purchase some wide-legged jeans in a wash that's so dark I could barely tell that it's blue and not black. They will more than likely get worn with metallic sandals (summer) or dark brown boots.

I wear all of the above. FYI, leopard print actually works well with navy in some circumstances.

No new navy pieces for me, but I've always loved warm shades of brown with those dark blues. Cognac would be great!

I think it can depend based on your coloring and what flatters you. I look best in warm tones, so when I wear a cool-to-neutral like navy, I tend to pair it with warm colors like cognac, brown, burgundy, etc. Silver or gray wouldn't suit my, though it looks smashing on others.

My wardrobe skews heavily towards navy. I wear cognac, taupe, grey, silver, pewter, brown, burgundy, olive, a floral sneaker that are grey and navy with fuchsia flowers, orange, a tealish green, white, and navy shoes with navy.

Excellent question! Most of my shoes are brown, and if it's good enough for Prime Minister Trudeau...though honestly, those shoes are too *light* for that suit!

BTW I did notice the preponderance of navy, along with the lack of olive. Maybe Nordstrom figured that after this spring, we were all sick of olive?

I wear navy with navy. I also wear other shades of blue with navy, plus white, burgundy and gray. And cognac, if I had any.

Okay, how about this - Rupert Murdoch marrying his fourth wife, Jerry Hall, wearing a navy suit and brown shoes.

Here's another one of Trudeau in a navy suit and brown oxfords that almost have the toe of a western boot.

Good question, Lisa! So far most often black, or sometimes white, silver,or occasionally burgundy. I'm thrilled to see all the navy footwear this fall and plan to add a pair or two to wear with my navy pants and skirts.

If I'm wearing navy then I will wear tan, grey/silver, gold, navy and red shoes.

With navy items, I would happily wear shoes in:
- deep pink
- red
- burgundy
- violet
- turquoise
- bottle green
When wearing shoes in any of the colours mentioned above, I would repeat the shoe colour in an item worn near my face, for instance a top, a scarf, a necklace, or a pair of glasses.
Of course, neutrals will be an easy choice, and I would use:
- cool brown
- white
- silver
- grey
Instead of navy shoes, I would choose a deep cobalt blue or a rich midnight blue, preferably in suede.
Black shoes are almost always a possibility, though not very exciting with navy.

These are my choices, for ME, and they are related to MY looks, personal colours and style preferences. I am a bit taller than the average woman and have long legs but relatively short feet. I look good in vibrant cool colours and prefer some colour contrast in my outfits. White, silver and grey shoes bookend my hair, while blue shoes are a repetition of my eye colour.
Maybe this can serve as an inspiration. However, I advice you and others to base your choices on your own looks, personal colours and style preferences.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I'm putting navy and baby blue on my NAS shopping list, along with cognac, and light pink. I do have a taupe bootie from last year's NAS (I put the finds below) so if nothing works this year, it sounds like I would be ok with the taupe booties.
