Wow, you all are such very talented chefs!! Carla are those biscuits your biscuits?!! I should make them again-so good!

I used to meal plan every week, but that has slipped since the holidays. We are still trying to find our groove in a routine (DH is back at work, but traveling, so there are spells of him needing to self-quarantine when he gets home). CJH, your plan is a great one, and very inspirational.

It's been very (VERY) cold with lots of snow on the ground, so we have been reaching for crock pot and soup foods.

This was a recent hit for my crew, and pretty easy: Crock pot butter chicken (like Tikka Masala, but not as spicy) https://themodernproper.com/sl.....er-chicken

Creamy artichoke soup from Duarte's (an old haunt in Half Moon Bay) Caution: it is VERY, VERY rich...

And, butternut squash soup. We omit the brown sugar. The white ground pepper is key for this one!

This year
I bought myself a slow cooker. Although until recently I did not know that such
a thing exists at all. I often cook chicken with vegetables. Products (for 4
servings): Whole chicken (without giblets) - 1 pc. (about 2.5 kg) Salt - 1 tbsp
l. Ground black pepper - 2.5 tsp. Large lemon - 0.5 pcs. Thyme sprig - 3 pcs. Garlic
(crushed by a knife handle) - 3 cloves Baby carrots - 3 cups Shallots (peeled
and cut in half) - 6 pcs. Dry white wine - 0.25 cups 1. Sprinkle the chicken
with 1.5 teaspoons of salt and 1.25 teaspoons of pepper. Put half a lemon,
thyme sprigs and crushed garlic inside the chicken. Tie the chicken legs with
cotton thread. Sprinkle the remaining 1.5 teaspoon of salt and 1.25 teaspoon of
pepper on top. 2. Place the carrots and shallots in a slow cooker (about 5
liters). Put chicken on top. Pour wine over the contents of the slow cooker.
Close and cook for about 1 hour. Then, at minimum power, cook for another 5
hours (the meat thermometer should read 85 degrees C). Serve the chicken and
vegetables immediately.

Today is day 12 of an attempt at ‘no repeats’ for the month. So far so good and I’ve got menus planned through to early next week!

Carla, in college my roommates and I did that. We had to do it because one roommate always made ground beef, cream of whatever soup, and tater tot casserole. We checked out cookbooks from the campus library. We lasted at least seven months.

OK, how do I vote for a meal planning party?? We seem to default to the same thing over. and over. and over. and over.... We *may* throw in a new one every other week or so, but for the most part it's Groundhog Day in every aspect of life! LOL

Just discovered King Arthur's gingerbread mix. I bake from scratch, but gingerbread requires molasses, thw balance of which ends up going to waste. So tried the KA mix for DH, a big gingerbread fan. We both really liked it. It was amenable to additions too - I've tried it with choc chips, and also added about half a can of leftover pumpkin.

Also tried babka with apricot jam and mini chocolate chip filling. And kolache (Czech fruit filled pastries). Photo is of the babkas.

For Valentine’s Day I made my husband a special dessert. I let him choose whatever he wanted, but only gave him 15 minutes to decide. He chose cheesecake! I used an old recipe from a friend of my mother’s. The ingredients said 18 graham crackers and I had to call my mother to find out what that meant. (Is it the square? The full cracker? Who writes a recipe like this?) It has a cream cheese layer, and then a sour cream layer on top.

Lot's and lots and lots of different types of chilies comfort food i'm not a cook but trying to learn.

Found young dandelion in the garden, so made dandelion batter cakes from Les Stroud’s Wild Harvest show. They’re a hit!

... and I realise this is not my best photography. Looks like a pile of food. They’re little flat pancakes...

Looks delicious,RL!

With lots of cold weather and snow, (it is coming down now), I have been alternating between ground beef chili and green chicken chili and hope to put tortilla soup in the rotation soon. It includes ingredients we usually have to make a trip to the grocery store to get.
Thank you Carla and cjh for your tips on stuffed peppers. Good ideas.
