Follow up - Jcrew Majesty Peacoat - K/R?

Hi,

A few days ago I asked about the Jcrew Majesty peacoat:

I decided to order an older version on eBay - it arrived today. What do you think? It feels good on. It would probably look a bit better when/if I drop 10 lbs (in progress).

First time using a self timer in our new yard...
Keep or return? Honest thoughts appreciated.

You have an enormous yard!! Wow.

The coat looks good from what I can tell. The shoulder fit seems okay. It does seem as if it is pulling a bit in the midsection. Are you wearing the type of clothing you'd want to layer under it?

You look so elegantly tall in this.

How does the colour make you feel?

Suz, yes our yard is huge... too big! It's probably bigger than our house. Haha.

I am wearing it over a long sleeve cotton sweater, and that's probably how I would wear the coat in the fall. I do see the bit of pulling. I didn't fasten the inner button so I don't know if that would make a difference. I know it would look better if I was 10 lbs less.

I like the color. It's not a color I would normally pick for myself, but it's different. I'd probably dress it up with a bright scarf.

I think it is a nice classic shape and you could dress it up with a scarf on cooler days. Try doing up the cross over button. I find that often makes a difference in how a jacket hangs when it is a double breasted style.

I'd like to see more photos (with the back & side view too if possible) with the internal button done up.

ETA: Sorry forgot to add that when I've bought things in the expectation of weight loss, I've never lost the weight in the right places

I like the coat on you in general, but do admit my eye is drawn to some pulling/fit issues around the upper arm/front area. As much as I totally "get" that " it will look better in 10lbs" thinking, and I see that you are in mid-stream with this, it's that rule that rears it's ugly head: never buy something in antipation of changing size. You also have the height and colouring to wear a brighter , more intense colour. Have you checked out the other colours the coat comes in? The blue in your find pic is outstanding!!

Thanks for the thoughts. I agree the fit looks less than perfect. I'll have to play around with styling it and then decide what to do...

I think it's worthwhile playing around a bit more with accessories before you decide. And another thought - could you move the buttons a bit for the time being just to give yourself a bit more ease?

Echoing missvee --- Why not wait a month or so and, if their is still a slight fit issue, you can move the buttons slightly. That should make a difference. I love a good peacoat. I bought one from Coldwater Creek a few years ago in a glorious deep purple. Unfortunately, it was a blend that is wearing out quickly. Yours should be a better quality.

The only question I have is one of color --- I could see you looking smashing in classic peacoat navy, which is not to say I don't like the color here -- a lighter colored coat during the long Chicago winters can be an excellent choice, too.

I think it is pulling through the mid section. Angie's best advice to me has been buy for the body you have right now. Not that you won't lose the weight, but who knows when it'll happen, and no point having a coat in you closet you don't feel fab in right now.

I have the same concerns as others. But I would wait for a while to see if you can get your weight in a range compatible with the coat size. Two reasons - it is only September and you can still wear it later. Second it is from Ebay so you are not under a return period deadline. If it doesn't work, you can always relist.

Kind of weird that all the photos on the Jcrew site show it unbuttoned!

I would size up. I'd like to see the top button hit below the chest, rather than right ON it... maybe that is just me.

I also think one size up would still fit your shoulders, and very likely provide ease in the midsection.

If it doesn't ease in the midsection, moving buttons a smidgen is a very simple alteration and one I have done many a time with double breasted items. That's one of the benefits of double breasted items, far as I'm concerned.

But honestly I'd still size up rather than move buttons... because the top button placement is just... odd. It seems it's that way on the models. I still think it's quite.. odd.

Also I think your weight is just fine and you don't need to lose a lb. You look lovely.

The garment is just not worthy.

Well I'm wearing the largest size available so sizing up isn't an option. Moving the buttons is a good idea!
