Fly London Sizing?

I ordered this Fly London sandal in black, and found it to be just a little bit too long although the Medium width seems ok. It slops around a little on my foot which is no good for sandals, especially ones with straps like this. I got it in size 37 (6.5-7). I normally wear 6.5 in sandals, occasionally 7. It's sold out in the next size down 36 (5.5-6), but I think that would probably be too small. Too bad they don't have half sizes. I did set an alert to notify me when it comes back in stock in the smaller size. I really like them, but am not interested in the red, yellow, or taupe colors that are also available. This brand is new to me.

For those of you who've worn this brand, how do you find the sizing? It seems to me that it runs a little big, has that been your experience?

I have quite a few pair, and don't find they run wide , or big. I have a normal-to-narrow foot, and they work quite well on me. Maybe my feet are high volume though? I don't claim to have wrapped my head around telling the difference between a high and low volume foot though - even after all these years on the forum - yikes. I have the closed toe version of the pair you posted . I buy my usual Euro 39, and they fit across all styles ( I wear an 8 in pretty much every brand of shoe - the occasional 8.5 in some Kors styles) . The style you show above isn't my favourite of the ones I own because they rub ever-so-slightly at the back of the front vamp. Just hits my foot at the wrong point - by millimeters. The only one I have in finds is the slide, below, which I have in two colours. I don't think the Fly site is enabled for finds, is it? Photos are of a few more I have, or have had, and there are a couple more I can't find online (more than a year or two old now).

Lisa P, correct me if I'm wrong but I think you have bunions, which broaden the foot. That's probably why Fly Londons work well for you. The brand tends to run a little wide, and is very cushioned. Comfy!

I have a small bunion on one foot , which rarely affects fit : only on very pointy-toe flats . It's an aesthetic issue for me. I will not let it show , so certain sandals styles are not an option . Maybe my feet are wider than I think But most shoe fitters comment on my narrow foot, so ....? But yes, super cushiony and comfy !

Thanks Lisa p. I know what you mean about a shoe rubbing just enough to irritate....for me that issue rules out almost all “open toe” styles. I can’t keep any backless shoes on my feet like those miles, but I may look at something more like the gold one you showed. And thanks for the details Angie!

The yellow-gold one has some elastic straps along with leather ones . They fit very snugly and comfortably . A bit of a bold colour though, and I’m not wearing them very much - less than I thought I would .

I have two pairs. Slightly wide foot, so the fit is perfect for me. In the black ones, I found I needed to size up. Based on reviews, I was not alone, for that style of foot bed. For the bronze ones, (which I think have the same foot bed as the ones you posted), I took my normal Euro size. I’m actually wearing them right now- love them!

I have three pairs of Fly London shoes and boots and I find they run true to size. I have higher volume feet with a narrow heel and wide forefoot. The leather is buttery soft and comfortable over hammertoes, bunions, and other lumpy, bumpy foot issues. Love them!

I have one pair of Fly London sandals. I almost always wear size 39 in European footwear and my Flys are 39. I have normal width feet. The expert shoe fitter told me this yesterday. I do have feet that get inflamed and I like lots of wiggle room. That is probably more information that you really wanted to know about my feet.
My Flys fit perfectly in length and also when my feet get inflamed. The leather is soft so that helps.

I am flylondon curious. I have wide feet and narrow heels and a bunion. Digging the grippy looking sole and the reports of cushiony feel.

I have Fly London boots, which may fit differently than the sandals. They fit me perfectly in my normal 40. I have a very "average" foot.

LisaP I know what you mean about that gold color. I have one top this spring in that color that I've worn a few times but not as much as I thought I would. I do like that style of sandal and will look for it.

Good to know nuancedream! My feet are average width, very slightly narrow heel, no bunions or hammertoes, but a very flat instep so low volume feet. The leather is indeed lovely! I'm thinking maybe the sandals I got look a little too short because I have very tiny/short child-size toes.

Elizabeth P good to know. I suspect closed toe shoes are always a bit easier to fit than sandals, at least I find that to be the case.

I have a smallish low volume foot, size 6.5 in a closed shoe but often a size 6 in a sandal, depending on the brand. Fly London fits slightly large on me which usually means the 37 is too big and the 36 is too small for a closed shoe, but will sometimes work in a sandal. (I have the same problem with Ecco and Pikolinos brands) This all seems like far too much trouble so although shoes are my thing, I do not own any Fly London’s.

Interesting DJP. Your feet sound very much like mine except that I'm 1/2 size larger than you. I'm on the fence about whether to keep looking at Fly London or skip them as you have done. I've only tried pikolinos once but had the same issues.

Bj1111- definitely try them! My feet are wide through the forefoot, but not fleshy, and J love the way my Fly London’s fit. Plus, the soles are a lot of fun.

I’ve had great luck with the Yalas because of the adjustable ankle strap. I have a average width forefoot with a narrow heel. They’ve been amazingly comfortable right out of the box - a 14 hour shoe!

I like them a lot and often try them on but have never found a pair that works on me -- I'm between sizes in them. Sad, because the cushioning is great on pavement. I'll keep trying in the hope I eventually find a style that works.

I'm a true "in between" 6.5 and 7, too, so that might be it, Chris? EU 37 generally works best for me (better than either NA size) and British sizes are often a bit off. I have a similar problem with Docs.

ETA: I have the same issues with Pikolinos and El Naturalista and Buenos. But Ecco works for me -- weirdly enough, and so do some other EU brands.

I have the Fly Londons below in silver. I have a teeny tiny heel and wide forefoot made wider due to bunions. I also have a low volume foot due to low arches. I need the laces to make the sandals wide enough in front; I had a non-lace pair of Flys that never stretched out enough to make them comfortable. The length in a 37 is fine for me and seems to be the length of other 37s. But I think ECCOs don't quite work for me, but I haven't tried many. Suz and I aren't foot twinnies!

missvee good to know. I have a serious poison eye for anything vaguely like a maryjane look but I realize they can be super comfortable. Maybe I need a detox on my poison eye!

Suz, good to know that they are good on pavement. I don't walk on pavement much but I find that shoes built for that are what I want most of the time. I have only one pair of Eccos - sneakers in size 37 - and they are a hair big but I only wear them with socks so it's fine. That seems to tell me that Fly London's and Eccos are made on similarly sized lasts.

DonnaF, interesting experience. I have the opposite issue as you, I usually need shoes that I can make tighter in front becuase my instep is so flat.

Thanks so much all, this discussion has been extremely helpful. Zappos returns are really easy for me so I just ordered that yellow one Lisa showed, in black and in both 36 and 37. (see find below) Even with the thicker platform type sole the heel may be too high for me, but I'm willing to give it a shot. If it does not work out I'll have a better sense of how their sizing works for me, and I think I like this style even better than the one I mentioned at the start of the post. That one is going back.

Chris, I share your serious poison eye for anything remotely resembling a Mary-Jane, which is another reason I don't wear those ones very often. I didn't want to mention it until you did I only bought them because of the comfort level and because I was desperate to find a black shoe that had 12 hour standing-up wearability . I've actually warmed up to the look because of how many positive comments I get when I wear them !

What Angie said. I ordered the yellow Fly London sandals that Lisap has, and found they ran quite a bit too wide for my foot. They ran a little long as well.

Chris it’s interesting that you see the Yalas as a Mary Jane style because that is a huge poison eye for me too. I guess because the strap is around the ankle and not across the foot, it’s never occurred to me that they look even vaguely like a Mary Jane. We all see things differently though don’t we? I have what I think is a fabulous pair of Vince mules, but while wearing them recently someone commented “oh I didn’t know that clogs were back in style”. Aaaargh.....

missvee, the ones that look maryjane-like to me are Kathie's Piat and Yven, but NOT the Yula shown by Style Fan.

That comment about mules/clogs is pretty funny although it could have also been a not-so-subtle criticism. Oh well. If you were talking about Dutch traditional costumes/clothing the word "clog" would have yet another meaning

Well, surprise, surprise, .....the smaller size of the Yaji I ordered (see my find and lisa p's yellow one) seems to be the right size! I never imagined a shoe sized "5.5 -6" would fit me but it's just about right. I'm still unsure if the heel height is ok but a few hours of wearing around the house will tell me.

So, for me, i should look at Fly London's in a size 36, at least for sandals. I'm happy to know that even if I don't keep them.
