I don't belong to a gym. We live in an urban area and are within walking distance of grocery store, drug store, cobbler, dry cleaner, etc, etc. I often motivate myself to go for a walk by combining errands with the task, killing two birds with one stone. In fact, my dentist has never seen me in anything but gear, because her office is exactly 1.5 miles away.

Technically, I could walk these errands in ballet flats or cons and jeans, and I have done that too, particularly if DH is joining me and we are planning to pop in somewhere for lunch or dinner during our loop. But it's not as comfortable and I am loathe to walk too briskly, work up a sweat and muss my nice clothes.

If the errand requires a car, then I change out of gear, no matter how brief the errand, no matter if I come right back home and change back into gear. It's funny but I often feel foolish for changing just because I'm getting in the car! I used to dress up just to pick the kids up from school or their friends' houses ... even if I wasn't even getting out of the car. Then again, I also still have a mental block about wearing gear to an airport. My mom taught me to dress nice when going to an airport (even if you are just picking someone up and not flying).

Shiny, I find this interesting, as I also walk for most of my errands. But I will wear my gladiator sandals and skirts and whatnot for these walks. Running is the only time I wear gear for these errands. Maybe because running *requires* gear such as a sports bra and proper shoes, whereas you can walk in all kinds of clothing. Ditto for yoga. I don't ever wear yoga clothes, unless I'm actually doing yoga practice. I don't lounge in my yoga stuff or wear it out to the store. I personally find it really strange that some people buy expensive yoga gear and never actually do yoga!

I wear the same yoga pants and sports tank top to my Weight Watcher meeting every week. That way it doesn't change my loss numbers. Mental, I know. But almost everyone at the meeting is doing something similar, so I don't stand out. I wouldn't feel comfortable running errands in my not-very-flattering yoga pants, but I see lots of people wearing the sporty look at the grocery store.

All the time. It's better than ratty old sweats, right?

I agree, KatieKat. I think people in "yoga" pants look cute. Basically they're knit jersey flares. Flares are like universally flattering. I'll admit if you wear the sport bra top and ratty fleece with them, that's a little grungy, but otherwise...

Out is the hoochie hoodie terry sweat suit and trying to dress it up with the hoochie hoops.

And sparkly platform flip flops and maybe matching sparkly phone cover lol.

@rachylou - YUP! I often pair the yoga pants with a sporty zip-up jacket and a sporty tank top. I can seriously live in those.
