Enchanted by a Basic - SYC in peril

I have been watching these boots in, intending to try and wait for a sale, and I just spotted some in my size for a bit of a discount - not a steal, but better than full price. They also seem to be flying off the virtual shelves, because both sites I am stalking show very low stock in all my possible sizes.

I love the mid-height heel on these - you just don't see that often, and my Report booties really made me fall in love with a walkable heel. I usually don't fall in love with basics, but this particular basic has thwarted me over the years by always having the wrong heel height, wrong footbed width, wrong shaft height, or poor quality. Now everything seems to have come together in one boot...

The problem is that I'm still on SYC, but I have a feeling my size will be gone if I wait for a sale - and even then, this color might never go on sale. I know I can pay for them with my sales money and by reselling a pair of boots I don't wear much, but that will surely eat away at (and maybe eliminate) fun money for the YLF meet in October.

Is one solid, basic investment piece worth blowing the Fall budget? Maybe as an early birthday present to myself? And if you DO think it's worth it, should I get the non-distressed version at full price instead, so that it's even MORE of a basic?

I'm going to try not to get confused by terminology here. Boots are an essential, not a basic - right? And yes, these look like a good solid investment to me. I am all about the mid-heel; is this 3'? That's the most I do and I think it's great. I debated distressed vs. non-distressed on the Frye boots I got, but went with distressed because that's MY essential. I'm guessing it's yours too, more so than the non-distressed.

These look great, Rae. Given how essential boots are to your style, I think they might be worth it.

As to distressed or not, I can't say for sure. I like both.

In my lights, shoes/boots are in a separate category from other clothing, because shoes are harder to get right.

So if they are something you know you love, and will wear all the time, and the price is good, then I say go for it.

When my Aldo mid-calf engineers die, I am replacing them with a Frye engineer!

I am confused by basics/essentials,too. I have settled into thinking that basics can be essentials but that essentials need not be basics. Don't know if Angie would agree, but it lets me sleep at night. It says the heel on these is 2.25, which would make them all day and travel shoes for me I think. The reports are 3 inches. Ceit, that is a good point that shoes are so much harder to fit! It took me sooo long the last time I was looking for something this specific...

Is the trade off worth it to you? For me, it would be and I would get the shoes and enjoy the YLF trip with empty pockets. But that's me - this is about you lol.

PS I blew the spring budget with my Frye Julia's and couldn't be happier - even though I white knuckled a few months of SYC right after, including a shopping trip with Denise.

These are the heeled version of the Veronicas I bought at NAS, right? I was not going to buy anything at NAS and then I caved...

I justified those by saying, a) the black NEVER goes on sale and they were discounted during NAS, b) they will be a direct replacement for my old dead moto boots, c)I had wanted those boots for years, and d) black midcalf boots are one of my essentials, so I can never have too many. =P

Love these boots. I like both the distressed and the black. I think both would be a great addition but only if you feel you can manage it at the moment

That type of boot is a mainstay and will only look better with age You don't have anything remotely similar, right? They are a good investment, that is for sure.

Diana, thanks for confirming that black does not go on sale... I could not remember where I saw that. I love how you wear your veronicas! Mo, I think you are right - I think I would have more fun wearing the boots to the meetup with empty pockets than buying other stuff that happens to catch my eye on that day.

Given that boots are simply a part of you and you find them very hard to fit it does seem worthwhile to spend the money now. I'm sure the CPW would be very low at the end of their life.

Both are beautiful finishes Rae, which ones call to your heart more?

Basics?? Essentials?? Come now, Rae, you and I both know that great boots are basically essential, right? I fail to see the dilemma, here.

Freckles, thank you for mentioning CPW - it reminded me that I'll be wearing these a very long time, so I spent some extra time considering the wash.

Ok, so I caved and got pic #2 from Amazon (FYI, all the reviews say that Amazon has the wrong picture up), which actually turned out to be cheaper than #1 because of 20% off with email sign-up. This way I also get to try both sizes and be sure they are absolutely perfect.

She won't take them off her feet. They are a hit. And I like them so much I was looking for a similar pair myself....and then I read this thread.

I'm sure those Fryes will be an equally big hit with you.
