Laughing through Una's thread someone mentioned ripped seams when removing clothing in a dressing room. What do you do when this happens? To be honest, the first time it happened to me, I left the article in the dressing room but I felt so guilty that I did not try on clothes for a very long time. (yes, I have issues) The second time it happened I gave it to the dressing room attendant telling her it was torn, just neglected to say it was me that tore it. (more guilt)

So, my question is, what is the proper protocol when this happens?

And, what are your dressing room confessions?

Can't wait to read answers from members with retail experience. I'm especially interested in how inventory is written off.

Worst dressing-room confession that comes to mind: feeding bf's cat her afternoon chick so she'd settle down while I tried on a dozen pairs of jeans. (Nothing was damaged or dirtied, it's just not what dressing rooms are designed for.)

The worst thing that happened to me was once when I was trying on a very beautiful pale pink silk taffeta jacket with lots of little fabric covered buttons down the front. I was chatting to the SA as I was putting it on and when I turned to look in the mirror I realised that I had caught a hangnail on my finger and there was blood in a thin wiggly line all down the front round the buttons!!

I was mortified, the SA was wonderful and said she would get it cleaned and it wasn't a problem,and it wasn't as if I wanted to buy it either. It still makes me cringe at the thought!!

Bj, it's bf's cat and she lives, just LIVES for outings. Since bf took on a project that requires a long commute and being away most days, I try to take his Pet Carnivore to the piers or at least on errands when I can manage it. I've learned to vacuum-pack her next meal (frozen) and bring it along just in case we're out longer than planned.

OK - I'm trying to get my head wrapped around taking a cat into the dressing room with me! That is hilarious! Amy - is the cat in a carrier? - or on a leash? - or what?????

Oh - I forgot to answer the question! Deb - I've done the same things that you have done - plus a few more (which I'm embarrassed to admit - but, here goes.)

* Whenever I try on a piece of clothing and get make-up on it - if I decide that I want the item, I either look for another one in my size - or, I tell the SO that there is make-up on it and would she please try to find me another one in my size - no, I do not happen to mention to the SO the fact that said makeup is my own. (turning a little red in the face)

* A couple of years ago I met my sister and one of her daughters in Las Vegas for a dance competition that my niece was competing in. On the last night of the competition there was a fancy-shmancy "Gala" that required "dressy" clothing - and I had forgotten to pack my "dressy" dress. So a few days before the Gala my sister and I went shopping for dresses. We found several possibilities at an Anthropologie and took them into the dressing room to try them on. I guess I should mention at this point in the story that we were both carrying (and sipping) on margaritas - hey, before you judge, remember - it was Vegas. So . . . somehow I managed to knock both mine and my sister's drink onto the front of one of the dresses. We had absolutely nothing with us to try to sop up the margarita - so . . . we only did what any level-headed sensible person would do - we sucked on the dress to try to "lift" the liquid out of the fabric. Luckily the dress was a dark navy and you couldn't actually see that 2 margaritas had been spilled onto the front of the dress. No - I'm not going to tell you whether or not I bought the dress.
OK - going to sign off and call my sister - only she can understand the reasoning behind the decision to suck a margarita out of a dress.

Okay. I am dying here. You guys are so funny I can't stand it! Marley, the image of you sucking on that dress will be with me forever. Meanwhile, I am still trying to get my head around a cat eating a chicken in a dressing room....

Marley, the important question is, did you get lipstick on the dress when you sucked the margarita out of it?

Suz - do you really think the "important question" is if I got lipstick on the dress? Perhaps a more important question would be - "How many margaritas had you already had that day?"

I was once trying on a pair of white leather slouchy pants in the Vince store. The leather was so thin that I accidentally put a finger through it near the hem. I have very short nails. I was so embarrassed that I left them in the dressing room. I have never been back to that store since.
I do feel a bit guilty though.

Marley, how did that taste? And what color was your lipstick?

The cat is on a harness and leash, transported in a carrier, and once we're at destination it depends. She eats in the carrier; I wouldn't risk her batting whole prey around in public. Last week I finally made it to a Goodwill in a nicer part of town, and let her out of the carrier (tethered leash to bench) while I was trying on tops. She sat by the door, watching whatever was going on outside it, and by the sounds of it surprised the few people who noticed.

No kidding. This thread is the best advertisement for brick and mortar I have ever seen.

I can't wait for some of our retail people to weigh in.

Marley and Amy, I had my family in stitches at your escapades over the wine and supper.

And Marley, you are right, of course -- I should have asked how many margaritas you had consumed...but i confess, based on the story, I suspected you would have forgotten.

Maybe the real question is what else were those drinks spiked with?

I would LOVE to go shopping with you and your sister in Vegas.

I can't think of anything quite so funny, but do recall a hilarious tale of Clearly Claire's about being stuck in a dress at a thrift store dressing room.

LOL - I got to thinking about this thread while I was sitting in church tonight (that's right ladies, I not only do Vegas, but I do church.) Anyway, I realized that I kind of sounded like a lush - but really, it was only one margarita (from what I remember!) - but I think it was one of those cadillac versions - and good grief, it was Vegas and you can walk around and into any store with one in your hand - that's crazy!
Now, about that Cat - I'm kinda-sorta afraid to ask this but, it's just a piece of chicken that you fed the Cat, right???????? (Amy, please tell me it was just a chicken part, OK???)

I'll never go into another dressing room without thinking of cats and chicks and margaritas and sucking dresses in Anthropologie...

It's probably a good thing that some of the members who work in retail haven't read this thread yet!
