I may just try that, Lisa p!

I got these Naturalizers for a couple of weddings but of course never got worn last year. They are cut to cover my bunions and will accommodate my arch cookies should I decide to add them. I can no longer wear true heels, but the height on these is sufficient to make them dressier than true flats. They will never be as comfortable as Alegrias, however.

Those are very pretty & appropriate, but Naturalizers aren’t wide enough for me. Their wide is a C width, & I need a D.

I can wear the Naturalizers E width, as they run narrow, but they don’t make that many shoes in that width.

Suzuieq, I have tremendous empathy for hurting feet! I soooo get it. Wear your favourite shoe brands with your gorgeous dresses and make your statement. Call it a day.

If I were going to a very formal event, I would probably wear sneakers too, and am nodding along with Lisa P.

THIS is one of my very favourite MET Gala looks. Note the Nikes

My mom has the same issue as you and my sister has foot issues. I get them shoes from Maryland Square. Ros Hommerson are some of the most comfortable shoes they have worn. I once wore a pair to of their pumps to a wedding and danced the night away without every needing to remove them.

They have a good return policy too. So you can wear them around the house and get a good feel for them.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

I failed to mention how I broke my ankle a few years ago. It acts up every once in a while, so whatever I buy has to have non-slip soles & be ultra comfortable.

Isabel: I tried Ros Hommerson several years ago & they we’re too low for my instep. There are several places on my foot where the fit has to be just right. I just tried on a nice pair of Dansko sandals that were in my closet, & was reminded why I never wear them. They have straps that go across the top of my feet. The right shoe is fine, but on my left foot, the strap cuts into my feet & is uncomfortable even for a minute. That strap isn’t adjustable, either, so I put them in my donation pile.

I did, however, decide to keep my black Dansko sandals. They’re adjustable & comfortable. I’m just not crazy about them because they don’t cover my bunions, but they’ll have to do for now until I can find something I absolutely love. I have not ruled out some glitzy sneakers, but sandals are better in the tropics.

I think the second of the Algeria sandals you showed, the iridescent pair, would really complement and highlight your sparkly lacy navy gowns. Iridescence is so pretty!

@Jenny NZ: The light-colored ones or the darker ones? One of my gowns is gray.

The darker ones to my eye- they would merge more with your gowns. And you could try iridescent navy nail polish!

I don’t polish my nails, but thanks. I like the darker shoes, too.

@Jenni NZ: This is what I ended up buying. They’re not the same color as the ones you said you like, but they’re the same shoe & they have a sheen to them. I like them because I never wear a lot of bling. Anything too shiny & attention getting is OTT.

My knee has bothered me so badly today that I have come to the realization that I can’t wear regular shoes anymore. I need the arch support, & the rocker soles. I can wear some of my Danskos; just not all of them. These sandals will feel good, & my poor feet & legs need to be happy.

Oh they look great. We are the opposite of course, I love bling so even a hint of it is better than none in my book. I see we may be a similar age since I just looked at your profile. I just turned 60.
You wouldn’t like the new blingy boots I got for my birthday! I will be posting about them soon
I hope your new sandals are very comfy.

Thanks, Jenni NZ!

I think there’s plenty going on with my dresses. Both have sequined bodices. And I really want the attention to go upwards.

I do wear jewelry; always earrings, a necklace, a bracelet & a watch (on same arm) & my wedding ring set. So I’m not a plain Jane. I just don’t glam it up as much as others.

I absolutely agree with your comment that your feet need to be happy! Thats how you’ll enjoy the special occasions, and how you want people to remember you. On always needing the orthotics, you have my understanding. Last night my son was irritated that I had already packed his slippers for a trip we are on today. He puts his orthotic insoles in them. He unpacked them so his feet wouldn’t hurt walking around indoors.

@FashIntern: Thanks. It’s hard to come to terms with orthotic insoles, but that’s what I need now, & there’s no getting around it.

I wear my Alegría clogs indoors as house slippers because my doctor told me to always wear shoes with arch support & to never go barefoot. That’s how I became familiar with the brand. When the weather warms up & I need sandals, I either wear Bzees or my Birkenstock knockoffs. I really want to buy Birkenstock’s, but don’t know what size to get.

If you have the opportunity to go to a podiatry/speciality shoe store to be professionally fitted for Birks, I definitely recommend it even as someone with no feet issues. I know that’s tricky right now!

I really don’t want to go out until my husband, daughter & I are all vaccinated. My husband & I have already received our first dose, but our young college-aged daughter has just now qualified to get it. Ideally we all want to get our second doses before venturing out. We have been extremely cautious because my husband is at greater risk of complications.

I understand!
Where will you be living in Mexico? I have fantasies of retiring there, at least for part of the year snowbird style.

@Jules: We’re retiring in Puerto Aventuras, which is south of Cancun, 30 minutes away from Playa del Carmen. We bought a beachfront condo, & we’re beyond excited about moving. It’s a downsize for us, though, so I’m in the process of decluttering, donating & selling the stuff we’re not taking (which is most of what we have).

Sounds wonderful!

There’s lots to do there, so we won’t be bored. I think my husband wants to buy a boat.

I like what you got! If they still have shoe clips, you could always add some bling for occasional variety.

@rachylou: good idea! Thanks

Walking cradles come in a large variety of styles, extremely cushy yet supportive (I have arthritis in my left ankle, along with 4 screws from a triple break I had in '82) The whole site is BOGO 50% for a few more days (I think till end of March). Most shoes come in a range from Narrow to Wide Wide (Extra Wide). They hold up well, I just re-ordered a pair of sandals very similar to ones I wore extensively for 3 years. I used to like SAS but the soles feel rock hard to me now and I wore them constantly for work (grocery cashier) for 19 yrs. Good luck!

@doggae lover: Thanks.

The Waking Cradles shoes that I tried weren’t comfortable at all. I have feet & leg problems that make it to wear I can’t just wear whatever shoe I want. Many so-called comfort shoes are anything but. They may very well work for others, but I have some rather serious problems with my feet & legs & knees & lower back & hips. I live with chronic pain, & when my lower body is miserable, so am I. I think I need to stick with what works.

Hey, all (@rachylou)!

I found these, also by Alegría, in my size. I think they’re perfect. They have bling but aren’t up in my face shiny.

I like them too. Snap them up!

Thanks, Angie. I did! This was something that didn’t require any rationalizations on my part.

Thanks, FashIntern.
