Thank you all! I do want to sew more, but want to take some fitting classes so I can get it right the first time. But elastic waist skirts are easy, and I can make pockets!!!
This did not look fab untucked (my original vision) - it needed the waist definition. I may like dresses better than skirts because of the longer unbroken line - kind of like a jumpsuit. I do love the subtle diagonal the white embroidered flowers make on this fabric and was super lucky that the pattern lines up pretty well on the skirt and top. Shoes are key - I was trading off sun coverage vs elongating the minimal leg line, but decided the white was low enough contrast that the high vamp was OK. It didn't look as good with navy high vamp sandals. So again, learning is occurring!
I must say skirts are cooler! I still have to address the sun coverage issues because I fry in minutes with my Danish Irish lack of melanin. The hat is a bit oversized for conventional flattery, but it attracted much envy from the graduation rookie parents, and those who have forgotten what high elevation sun feels like in mid June (and after our crazy winter, who can blame them?).
I will be more open minded about dresses for me in the future. Thanks Angie and YLF!
