I know it's an oxymoron, but our annual work gala is fairly casual. You might see one or two evening gowns and tuxes, but mostly it's suits and cocktail dresses. Some people are even less formal than that. I'll be giving tours of the museum, so I have to look professional but still festive.
In the past I've worn a black dress or skirt, so this year I thought I'd try to be a little more creative. Could I have your thoughts on this dress? I really like it, but it's heavy cotton sateen (so it's somewhat structured with some sheen). Is it too casual for evening?
I tried it with black accessories, thinking that might ground it, do you think it's too heavy? I thought I might wear the black shrug and black shoes and then use silver accessories. Or pearls?
Also, are the shoes too sweet with the dress? I don't have any other heels. I planned to wear sheer black stockings.
