Anne, I use a (cheap) flat iron every day to create my flippy style. I do blow dry before styling, but have never had any problems with heat control or hair damage. A flat iron is very versatile; it can be used to straighten, lift, or even wave (as I do).

Yes.

My hair is thin and a little weavy, but it doesn't matter. The natural straight look and flat-ironed straight looks are two very distinctive looks.

I have a heat defiant synthetic/human hair wig which I flat iron on a low setting to achieve the just out of the salon effect.

Thanks guys. This thread is 2 years old!

I am still not using one much at all! My hair seems to break easily and I am babying it with little heat styling.

Anne, good for you! I can only encourage you in this direction. Since we’re on the subject, i’ve been noticing myself that ever since wearing wigs (2 months), my bio hair, which I now simply air dry , is so much healthier looking and shiny.

I didn't care for straighteners - they seem to flatten the hair and my hair is not naturally flat so it just looks weird to me. I do use a very large curling iron to help smooth out waves or force them to go the way I want.

My hair is not straight nor curly. IT"S FLUFFY!!!!

I have the same problem; my hair is very curly and unruly
