love my spanx. i wear them for smoothing and warmth on the winter. the two faced tights are so snuggly in the winter without much bulk.

i also love their bras for back fat prevention.

No spanx - can't even imagine. I remember my mom's girdles when I was a kid. Not a pretty sight.

No spanx. And I very rarely shop for them with clients.

No spanx here! I might have a few pairs of control top hosiery I bought for other reasons, but I can't handle wearing compression garments.

No Spanx! I tried a pair and the waistband rolled down and cut in within 5 minutes, yow. (I would have cut them off with a scissor, but wanted my cash back for the return).

I do wear black lycra bike shorts or tights under summer frocks.

I have a couple of different versions (shorts, high waisted, tights, etc) and while I don't wear them as often anymore since I retired I do still keep them around. I like the smoothing they give me under clingy dresses.

I've tried a Spanx-like tummy-control garment before - and it was VERY uncomfortable and felt as though my blood circulation was being cut off! After the one event, I never wore them again.

I wear various types of shapewear, but usually only under clingy dresses. Most of the time I also wear some kind of shorts under skirts, partly to prevent flashing people and partly to prevent discomfort as my legs rub together. Contrary to expectation, I actually feel much cooler when wearing them because my legs don't feel sweaty and sticky.

mander...i wear spanx shapewear under skirts without tights for the same cooling sensation. i *hate* thigh rub.

I wear spanx and other store brands in the low cut cami type that I wear with my own bra. I'm no spring chicken, a very round apple and, even after loosing 26 pounds, my tummy is still protruding. I don't mind the compression at all and I wear my shapewear every time I leave the house. I just love the smoothing effect it provides.

I have to say we are all different body types with different flattery priorities. And although there was mention of just needing to exercise more, well I have weighed 50 kilos and still had a jiggly, cellulite butt and thighs. I could be skeletal on top and I would probably still have this. I like my shapewear because it means I can wear something thinner than a denim skirt without feeling naked in public.

Nope and never will. I tried a pair on one time and felt like an overheated sausage. The most control I get is control top Hue tights and hose.

No Spanx or similar shapers. I avoid control top pantyhose wherever possible. When I was trying on dresses last week, however, I noticed that I was developing my mother's pudgy arms and bits and bulges all over. My answer is thick ponte knits and lined dresses.

I have a pair that I bought at a saleswoman's suggestion instead of a slip to wear under a knee-length cream colored gown with a slim fit over the hips because I didn't want VPL or see-through issues. She suggested that I size up for comfort, and they worked really well for this purpose. I wear them maybe once or twice a year like this.

OK, I'm one of those suckers. I do actually have some Spanx, a full length slip and a boyshort. I've never actually worn them though. I bought them when I was updating my lingerie wardrobe and I thought as an apple, you had to have some (especially since I was posting K/R's on wrap dresses and I would get comments like "if you keep this you need to wear shapewear with it"). But I have to admit, I feel like it doesn't do a whole lot for me. In fact, it almost makes my tummy more prominent because it squeezes my tummy into a round tight ball. Does that make any sense? I've since learned to buy dresses that flatter my shape better (ruching and draping) without requiring shapewear. The only dresses I might consider wearing it with are my Bailey 44 ones, just because they're so body conscious. But I've just been wearing it without any shapewear and letting it all hang out (I'm lazy and like to be comfy!).

I remember my grandmother wearing a girdle every single day! My Mum stopped wearing them after her marriage - Dad didn't like them

I don't have any spanx - the prices are so high I baulk at them. I have a smoothing cami from Kmart that makes some effect but it is so hot there are 6 months of the year I wouldn't wear it

In theory though, I am not opposed to wearing them - and perhaps if the right occasion came up I would splash out

Thank you for all your replies. It's interesting to see how mixed the replies are -- some women love them, some hate them. Not a lot of in-between.

I have to say that I am not opposed to Spanx in principle. The ones I tried on were ridiculously tight, but perhaps I should try again, because some of you find them very comfortable. I have a few outfits which might benefit from shapewear, but I'm only willing to make a small sacrifice when it comes to comfort!
