Do you have a TV? If so, where?

When we bought this house, there were televisions in almost every room. Lots and lots and lots of TVs. Made sense, since the selling couple were both media people.

We took out MANY of the TVs and now just have one in basement gym and one in the library. We also cut the cable cord and only use streaming.

How about you? No judgment, just curious. (Every time I remind my parents - 86- that we no longer have cable TV, they act like we have announced membership in a suicide cult.)

ETA: lest you think we are Luddites, let me assure you that Mr. A has approximately 12 computer monitors in his not-large home office.

Two tv’s. One in the bedroom, which I swore I would never do, but Mr Green is most comfortable there, and can turn it up loud enough for his slightly deaf condition.
Another in the living room. Mostly for the news while we prepare food in the kitchen, as it is open concept.
Both of us spend more time on computer than with tv. The commercial’s length and content have killed off programming we might care to watch.

We have three screens but really only one that is a TV - it is in the living room. My sons have screens (they don't live at home) that are used for gaming mostly but can be used for netflix etc

We rarely watch live TV now but use the "TV" for streaming or delayed coverage. We do subscribe to Sports sometimes but we don't have a cable equivalent.

We don't have one. Or rather -- our kid has one, in their downstairs flat. And we have a very old one in storage.

Mr. Suz watches endless shows and movies -- streaming onto his large desktop. I don't really watch -- I prefer movies on a large screen. We do occasionally find a show we want to watch together, and in that case, I haul another chair into his study. It's not the most comfortable arrangement. But I grew up without being a TV watcher and never really developed the habit.

We have one in our bedroom. We both like to watch TV reclining on the bed we don’t have a cable, streaming platforms only. I listen to YouTube channels or local news on my IPad when cooking or in the mornings. I’m big on news.

We have 1 on our main floor that is kitchen/ dining and living room.
We live in the country with inconsistent internet so are limited to old fashioned air waves and temperamental internet and often "no signal."

We watch movies borrowed from the library and the evening news on which ever station is coming in while preparing dinner.

Our only television is in our lower level "family room." Mainly used by my teenagers and for family movie nights. It might be the only one, but it's pretty large! I usually stream shows on my laptop.

Got tvs in living room and sitting room. Then two tvs that I consider ‘portable’. They’ll sometimes be in the kitchen or bedroom or closet… I watch HGTV when I’m doing big chores. Then there’s a giant monitor that can be a tv. My brother left it. That’s also in the sitting room. And there’s the iPad and my phone. The largest is 50”. That’s five proper tvs, two ‘devices.’ And there are three active laptops.

No cable anymore, but I’m subscribed to a zillion streaming services. Apple Music finally sucked me in because it’s fun to play music through the 50”.

Tbh, the tv was mostly for the dog until last December when I became addicted to c-dramas, lol.

We have a large TV in the living room that is used by DH and DS for gaming. I watch a few Netflix shows there too, I mainly watch Japanese and Korean shows and enjoy being transported into different cultures.

My son is not interested in watching TV or movies. He prefers gaming as it is more social, playing online with friends, and requires strategy and skill. He was excited when Tears of the Kingdom was released by Nintendo recently and he enjoyed playing it on our TV. I watched him play and it was like being part of a beautiful Anime movie. We bonded over him playing that and working our way through different puzzles within the game.

Haven't had one in probably 15 years now, ever since we got high speed internet. Can't even stand to hear TVs when I'm in waiting rooms.

DH has streamed some shows on his computer, but I don't watch anything with him. Mostly we just surf the internet.

When I'm stuck in the office I'll watch short You Tube clips (mostly Gabriel Iglesias "Fluffy") cause it cheers me up- but that's about it. As a rule, I hate video content- would much rather read!

We have two. The older, smaller one from our condo days ended up in our bedroom and a larger newer (13 years old) one in our living room (wall mounted above the fireplace) but our whole main floor is open concept and not very big so we can hear it from the kitchen and watch it from the dining room table is some spots. We only do this for “important” sporting events lol.

I never thought I’d want a TV in the bedroom but it’s great when sick in bed or recently with my DH’s injured back - the only place where he could get some relief was propped up in bed.

I’ve become a bit of a news junkie since Covid so that’s on in the morning before work and for an hour or so after work. We also use it for steaming shows and watching movies. We have cable plus four streaming services - Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime and Apple TV.

We have also switched from cable to streaming. We use Hulu+live TV for network shows, news and such, and share various other streaming services with our kids. I don't miss the cable at all. We have a TV in our living room (after many years of having a "TV room" for TV without one in the living room, this house no TV room) and one in the basement family room which we rarely watch. We do probably watch more than we should, or I should say more than I like, but DH is more of a TV watcher than a reader so there you go

One big one in the living room and a smaller one in the bedroom . DD usually watches whatever it is she watches on her laptop. Streaming most stuff, with news and sports on regular cable. When we lived in a house, we had tv's everywhere and it was a bit crazy. My husband is a tech hobbyist.

i have one in the dining room since i live alone and am eating alone most days. i like to watch TV or more and more stream something on YouTube while i eat dinner, its a small (think the size of a large desk top monitor, which is what i also use it for on WFH days). i have a large TV in the living room. i have not cut the cord yet, but will be shortly. i'm finding less and less to watch on cable

I’m assuming by TV you mean a screen that’s not a typical computer monitor or laptop— not whether one has network or cable vs. streaming services.

I read some of the HOUZZ forums on gardening and decorating. It’s quite fascinating, how so few homes, even new “ modern” builds, have a good place for today’s “ TV” screen. It’s partly the move to “open concept “, but also that the family room , often the only living room, continues to be centered on a fireplace, making it very difficult to find a place for TV screen and arrange furniture in a pleasing way because of competing focal points. Of course then many people are left with placing TV high on the wall above the fireplace. And many contortions regarding furniture arrangements.
Sometimes there is a basement, or an extra room that can be a media room, but often not. And of course that may conflict with the way the family wants to gather.

I just think this is astonishing in current times, not so much in older homes but in brand new construction and in houses people are “ designing “ themselves or remodeling.

Two. One in the family/living room adjacent to the kitchen, and one in the rec room. We have cable for sports, and a Netflix subscription through one of the DS’s. I haven’t watched much TV in the past 9 years. DH watches sports (mostly golf and football) and movies. Before Covid we were borrowing DVD’s from the library, but haven’t got back into the habit.

I listen to public radio when I’m working in the kitchen, and use an iPad. I usually read for a couple of hours at night before going to bed. There are two offices with two big monitors each that get used mostly by the two DS’s and DH. We went big, because one of the DS’s has a vision impairment.

I imagine we won’t replace the upstairs TV when it dies, but would get a smart TV for the rec room.

This discussion makes me realize how many gaping holes in our walls (where gigantic TVs formerly hung) we have covered with large art or large furniture.

I have a dear friend whose household so revolves around TV that she has mounted an outdoor set, despite having one of the most stunning outdoor views on the US East coast. To each her own...

Mr. A has the courtesy to confine his bazillion hideous computers to his office, which I have zero problem with. Now, if he started advocating for them to be everywhere around the house, we might have a problem.

Crunchroll is a new one to me...

RC - I tend to want to hear the news while I'm cooking too, though my young friend from China says this puts stressful vibes into the food and soothing music is always a better choice.

One TV in the lounge. DH wanted one in the kitchen too and I said no. We do have a radio in there, mostly for listening to music. I think when eating one needs serenity and to be in the moment. Same for the bedroom, hence no TV in there either.

Crunchroll is mostly anime - my daughter' friend introduced me to it. Anime of all kinds - funny, action, romance, sweet... It's often helps to relax - especially if we watch it together with my DD.

We have a huge one in the family room (beside the fireplace, not above it), one in the bedroom (which we virtually never use -- my husband built it in behind a false window with shoji screens, see pics), one in the guest room (ditto), one in my Woman Cave, which I mostly use when I'm putting away laundry, and a small under-the-counter one in the kitchen, which I only use when I'm cooking alone. Oh, and one outside on the covered patio, which is also rarely used.

We cut the cord years ago and never looked back.

We got an Apple TV in our bedroom in a moment of weakness years ago, and it comes in handy. We don’t use it all the time, but it’s nice to curl up together and watch a movie in bed sometimes.
We also have a TV above our fireplace in our den, and another one outside on our covered deck. It’s just a cheap flatscreen but it’s great for watching something outside in the warm months.

We stopped cable a few years ago. The only downside to that is that it’s difficult to watch our favorite MLB baseball team’s games because there is a local blackout on their coverage unless you subscribe to cable and subscribe to the the owners’ channel (in our case MASN, owned by the owners of the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Nationals). It’s pretty messed up.

We don't have cable. Hubby streams and runs role playing games and has lots of monitors and a tv. Does he watch actual tv programs lately? Don't really know. When he was hospitalized for an operation some while back, he got hooked on Law and Order reruns.

Son has ginormous tv screen because he's a gamer. Otherwise he binge watches favorite shows like The Good Place.

I don't have a t.v. I was impressed many years ago when a boyfriend's older brother said he stopped watching tv because he wanted to be able to see a typical tv panel talk show and not recognize any of the people on there flogging their latest ventures. Everybody else I knew had the tv on 24 hours a day.

So I turned off my tv - which was then a smallish black and white - and stashed it in a closet. When I had a boyfriend over, he wanted to watch the Johnny Carson monologue so I dragged it out and he marvelled,
"You really DON'T watch tv."

I have regular chemotherapy and all you ever see on the constantly on tv's is home remodelling or property flipping shows. Weird.

We have one in the living room, and one that is a telly/computer monitor in the kitchen (almost never used as a telly - it is the main computer in the house). We've never had cable telly, so I rarely ever watch television, and when I do it is generally public television. My son has a monitor at his desk (a nook in the living area of the home), so he could use it as a screen for programs, but he just games.

We've never had a telly in any bedroom, either for ourselves or the kids, but as we get older I wouldn't necessarily mind being able to snuggle up in bed and watch a movie with Dh. In all honesty, though, I have trouble sitting through a movie, so maybe not!

There is nowhere to put a TV in our house. It is a newer house and as unfrumped mentioned it was built without a place for a TV. We have a large screen TV upstairs in the loft in front of a window because there is nowhere else to put it. We never watch it!!! I want to get rid of it and get a smaller TV to put in another room. The dogsitter likes to watch TV. Mr. SF and I watch everything on our laptops.
If I want to see a movie, I try to go to the theatre. I prefer the big screen.
