DIY bermuda shorts...maybe this was a bad idea...

Being on a tight budget (more so than usual thanks to recent major dental work), and having just invested in a pair of BF jeans and a nice pair of nude pointy-toes flats, I've got to put a hold on the spending for a bit. I wanted to try the whole bermuda shorts thing, but couldn't justify buying more clothes at the moment. Sooooo, I took some scissors to some work jeans and an old pair of capris. I would like to eventually buy some "store bought shorts," but thought I could try the trend free of charge first. My question is...do they look ridiculous? Too long, too short? They're just haphazardly rolled at the moment. I'm sure I could find a better looking pair in a store, but would these work to get me through the summer?

I'm having a hard time seeing #1 clear on my monitor, but they look pretty good to me. #2 look like traditional skinny jean bermudas. I think the length on both looks fine, but I'm no expert. Good for you for trying this!

No, I think it was a great idea. Angie had a post on this not to long ago. I really like the length on pic one I think it is very flattering on you.

I love both .. Not a bad idea at all! Why spend money on something that you can make out of your old jeans?

Ok, thanks guys! I was worried the jeans ones were too tight... My legs felt a little sausagey at the cuff area. But after wearing them around the house they stretched out a little. I'm excited to wear them!

I always scoffed at these length shorts, thinking they could never flatter a pear shape, (even though they are the length routinely suggested for pear shape). But like with skinny jeans and boyfriend jeans, I figured I should give it a shot. Glad I did!

My problem with 2 is that they seem too tight for shorts, they should be a bit more loose.
1 is hard to see on the picture..

Rute, I was wondering that, but thought the fitted longer shorts were also a look of their own? Maybe these are too fitted, though...

I took a (hopefully) better picture with the other pair.

I like the fitted ones too. I think you can either go baggy, or go fitted. Both are "looks." Wear the fitted ones with a looser top, and they'll work.

But are the fitted ones so fitted they are uncomfortable? That may not be good. Maybe you just need to get used to them?

I just went out for a walk to get breakfast and hit the farmer's market (strawberry season, yessss!). They loosened up a little and feel great now! Here's the outfit:
Ps: somehow my 180lb dog who is standing directly behind me is pretty much completely hidden

I like the denim shorts. Nice fit. You can also size up on that style. As long as you wear a belt, you're sorted.

I see that big dog and you still look lovely way to save the coins by reinventing and I still stand by that I like the other pair as well.

Looks ok to me! I did this last year with a pair of black linen cropped trousers I bought on eBay. They looked terrible worn as they were intended, but after hacking a few inches off and re-hemming them they became my favorites. And saying "favorite shorts" is a rather peculiar thing for me, because I hate wearing shorts.
