Per Angie's mention of her digital wardrobe representation...I'd like to hear more about how that works. A while ago, I did try photographing for Stylebook(?) but it didn't seem to be very useful for me, and then I tired of taking photos if I wasn't going to use it. I'm not sure what I'm looking for exactly...but would like to be able to mix and match different combo possibilities before getting stuff out of the closet to do it. I tend to reach for what's familiar rather than explore new options with what I have. And how does the YLF Finds function work? I've viewed it but not really figured out.

My ‘closet’ is in Finds. https://youlookfab.com/finds/?member=runcarla I found the instructions pretty straightforward. I tend to do custom finds - either taking a photo of the garment, or a screen shot from the product page. I’ve grouped some of my finds into collections as well. https://youlookfab.com/finds/c.....r=runcarla

It’s a great tool for creating travel capsules.

i use an app called Acloset for my Android phone. It allows me to keep and edit a closet of garments, creat outfits virtually, log wears, and it even figures out my cost per wear.

Most of my wardrobe is in Finds. I still have some older custom pieces to add. I don't have all my bags, and jewellery added. I use it to create travel capsules and to track my purchases. I also can see themes and patterns in my wardrobe.

The YLF version allows extra pictures. I use it to include outfits and find that helpful to see how I wore something before. Include footwear and any important accessories.

I use Finds, too, with custom Finds for items from stores that don't support the applet. I like that I can create "capsules" -- show all my footwear for a year, say, or all items in specific colours, or create a travel capsule or track a year's purchases.

Others use various apps on their phones. Some of those track wears and cost per wear, etc. I tried one of the apps at some point but got frustrated with set up and I tend to spend my "fashion" hobby time on YLF so prefer to stick to what is on here...but the others have advantages for certain requirements.

Joy, great idea to add outfit pics in Finds -- never thought of that!

Thanks, Runcarla. that's helpful to see what you've done. I hadn't explored all the parts of YLF. I'm assuming under FInds> Mine...is where I collect my items. Interesting there are 2 images there already that I didn't collect...maybe they are meant to be examples. I see some directions under HELP... It wasn't obvious how to upload photos of my own wardrobe but I'll need to spend more time exploring that part of the site. I can see it being especially helpful, as someone mentioned when you're shopping and want to see where a piece might fit in or if you already have something like what you are considering. A good project for another day...soon I hope.

And, yes Lanie... I live on Whidbey Island and love it.

Thanks for mentioning Acloset, chewyspaghetti -- I'm intrigued!

A while back I was using Stylebook a bit but the overwhelming amount of time that it took to manually erase the background on uploaded pics was a dealbreaker. Great if an AI can do it for me! We'll see how well it fares...

One question -- do you know if you can "opt out" of the social aspects of the app? I don't need to see other users' clothes, outfits, etc., but most especially I don't want other people to be able to see mine!

I also really need to 'upload' my closet at some point (but have been putting it off). So in the interim, I add YLF Finds that aren't an *exact* match to my owned items but with a little note explaining the difference.

Hopefully once I stop being so lazy about taking my own photos, I'll be able to properly populate my virtually 'uploaded' closet. But for now, there's this

whidbeygirl- its super easy to add custom finds. click into finds & click on "mine". you will see something that says custom finds. click on that, it will bring up what i'm showing in #2. click on the box that says add photo, if you are on a computer navigate to where ever you have saved your photos and double click, if you are on your phone, you have the option to use a photo from your library or to take a photo. i find it easier to have a photo already taken, (or saved from somewhere on the web).

i find finds an excellent way to keep track of what i own, but if you are looking for a tracking system or an outfit suggester, finds is not going to be the answer for you. i will also say that if you are starting from scratch with a large wardrobe it can be overwhelming. don't try to get it all into finds in one sitting, give yourself time

Widbeygirl - I actually love Stylebook. I use the “shop” feature and google to locate stock photos. Then create outfits like below - so you see the pieces but not necessarily as they appear on the body. I have both wardrobe and outfit section. Hey it works for me. It’s rare I need to photo and old piece. But I just do a flat lay on carpet and call it a day.

SarahD8- yes, you can use it without the social aspect. I don't use the social aspect. It used to be more built in to the app, but the most recent update changed it to where you have to seek that part out.

Just an aside - I also find random things in my finds . I think it must happen when you look at something someone else has posted and accidentally brush a finger over the heart symbol .

I’ve tried both Finds and Stylebook . My on-and-off presence here though over the years means my Finds needed to be recreated each time I set up a new account. I’m no longer motivated enough to build up the collection again - i didn’t use it for anything other than posting here anyways . I always am in awe of those who do use it for planning !

thanks, everyone for all the info and observations about how you're approaching this. I think for me it's more about having a record of what I have rather than tracking wears. As I said, I reach for the familiar too often and would like to experiment more with styling what I have in new ways.....and also knowing what I have when I'm considering a new purchase. Is there a way to delete images that are in FINDS that unwittingly were put in there? just curious.

I have the issue with random things ending up on my finds, too. The main reason that I don't use Finds is that I am almost always on my phone, and you can't add finds. Now that I am not taking any classes, I don't even turn on my computer.

Just unclick the pink heart beside the find and it will disappear the next time you log in .

LJP ...thanks for the tip. It worked and now that the page is empty the instructions show up that I couldn't see before. Will have to get busy taking some pix of wardrobe...thanks all for the advice!

chewyspaghetti... On YLF on my phone, I have added pictures taken with my phone to my Finds with no problem. I haven't tried going from a website on my phone to adding to Finds. I imagine you could take a screenshot from a website and then add it just like a photo to Custom Finds... but I haven't tried it yet. What I'm hoping is that having my wardrobe items on my phone will be handy for reference when shopping.

Hmm in regards to planning with your YLF finds, @Angie didn't you create that Random Outfit Generator one year for your April Fool's Day joke post? I can't remember which year it was lol but here:

There's an option to randomise items only from your own collection, instead of from all over the site. Might be worth a try?

Oh, I LOVE the Random Outfit Generator! I didn't know it was just for fun, I find it amusing AND helpful!

I use the Finds the same way- I feel like my shopping choices are limited to a few stores, so I love to see what other people are thinking about and what they have discovered. "Hmmm, someone is really into one shouldered looks right now!"

My own Finds tend to be items I am considering or items I want particularly love and might want to recommend to others, like Angie's Top Picks. I use Pinterest to track what I actually bought (by year). And a spreadsheet to track the cost.
