When I was a little girl I had access to a collection of cast off party dresses from my mother and my aunt (her older sister). They were social butterflies in the mid to late 50's and would go out dancing in the prettiest 'New Look' gowns with shiny or sparkly bodices and knee length tulle skirts. These cast offs made perfect fairy princess dresses for my younger self. My bestie had her mother's wedding dress (first marriage!) We shared a set of plastic 'wigs' that fit likel helmets and some cast off costume jewelery. A little arts and crafts work and viola! - a crown and magic wand. When I hit double digits I became a sporty tom-boy and packed off the fairy princess.

Sometimes when I'm getting dressed up for a special event, I feel a little of that magic. I like that feeling and would like to have more of that in my day to day. Maybe that is why I like daytime velvet and lace?

How about you? Did you play dress-up when you were little? Does it inform any of your fashion interests?
