Maya, you have great instincts, so I would follow them when it came to work appropriateness. Particularly because you are hoping this job turns into something long-term, I would not risk wearing shorts to the office. But like I said--you work there and you have great judgment, so I'm sure you know what would fly and what wouldn't.

Maya, you sound so.....so.....defeated. Just all round not so fab - or at least, not yourself. For weeks I have sensed this. Is there something wrong?

If you would like help with your short shorts, re-post the thread. I apologize for missing it.

That's the whole point of this thread Angie. I never feel fabulous in summer. Besides struggling with my skin and hair and being bored and fed up with my wardrobe, I do NOT have a high heat tolerance and feel physically ill when it gets this hot and muggy. It has been relentless this summer. More 90 degree, 60% humidity days than not.

I'll bump the other thread when I get home.

Maya, you need to take a long weekend vacay to Seattle!

Maya - what creative field do you work in?

Maya, I am beyond ready for the summer heat to end - not so much for the kids to go back to school - that seems like it's gone way too fast. Here we have been at 100+ for a couple of weeks. I am out of clothes to wear to work to keep me remotely comfortable (a/c not working - swamp coolers in place). A tee with a vest and walking shorts is unbearable. Skirts and dresses are the only things that work at all and I don't have many of those.

hang in there. I'm trying to remember that we had blizzards this winter and those weren't so fun either. Seems impossible right now.

Ugh, I agree, as much as I love living in a place where I get all 4 seasons (have already lived in places where I didn't), this summer has been hellish. With all this heat & humidity, I feel like I still live down south! And it started in March already!!! I feel pretty shlumpy many days. My hair is often a frizzy mess (or it becomes so after about 5 minutes outside) and I just feel overheated and sweaty!

Oh my gosh, over 100 and no AC? Wow, I am humbled SM. I would die.

Mac, I am working in advertising at the moment.

I need a vacay in general. I would love to be in Seattle right now. Dreary weather makes me so happy! It's supposed to be only 80 and rainy starting Thursday. I am looking forward to it.

My house is old and we don't have central A/C. We do have a window unit that was barely used until this year (we're at a higher elevation and have LOTS of tree cover so it's generally pretty cool at my house) and it has been on quite a bit. My husband also put a window unit in our bedroom for which I've promised him eternal servitude. Yes, it is just that good!!

I'm actually happy with my summer wardrobe right now (first season of my life I've been able to say that!), so I'm actually still enjoying it. Fall is my favorite season, so I'm very excited about a new wardrobe for it, but it's also kind of intimidating, since there's SO MUCH I need to get. Of course, it helps that even though it's in the 90's most days here, it's extremely dry, so it's nothing like the humidity that so many of you are dealing with!

Maya, I'd recommend the great white north for a vacation and remind you that you have a place to crash any time, but we're in the same boat right now. The good news is we had a real doozy of a rainstorm earlier today, so I suspect it's headed your way and will hopefully provide a bit of a break.
That said, come to Canada in the fall when it rules here!

Maya I can totally sympathise... and I *choose* to live in a climate that is hot and humid for 6months+ LOL!

Angie I was gobsmacked when I read your temp - 75F/23C is exactly what it is here in my little beachside town in Aus today - in the last few weeks of Winter - and you are in Summer!

Even today though its still 87% humidity LOL But they are predicting rain later!

Now I'm a bit curious about this weather - so many of you have had an unusually hot summer, or a milder than usual summer.

My past summer was much milder than usual, and we've been getting rain regularly all year - summer and winter - this is incredibly rare considering we've been in severe drought for over a decade. And this winter has really only had probably 7-10 days of cold days (cold for me that is LOL).

Craziness.... I would love to try living somewhere with 4 distinct seasons...

Michelle, I have family in Toronto but they are a bit crazy so I'm always reluctant to visit...

I actually kind of like blizzards. It reminds me of staying home from school, playing in the snow, and coming in to have cocoa. All the stuff you can't do as a grownup anymore The only thing I hate about it is shoveling.

I loved the weather when I was in Brittany. Extremely variable throughout the day. In the morning it could be as low as 50, and as high as 80 by afternoon. Pouring one minute and sunny the next. But never overly hot or cold. it did make it a little tricky to dress, but that's how I learned to layer.

Please, God, send a few of those hot days from back East to San Francisco! We have been almost solidly fogged in for weeks and weeks now, and I am about to lose it. I'm wearing my wool winter coats everywhere, but I don't feel it's appropriate to wear my boots in the "summer" even though it's cold enough to do so. I've even pulled out my winter scarves and gloves a few times when I've had to be outdoors after sunset. I love this city dearly, but I'm tired of living in the Maltese Falcon!

Sounds like everyone is having extreme weather of one sort or another this year.

It has been unseasonably cool here...80's low 90's:) But, I love Fall too and am chomping at the bit to wear my new boots:)

Chicago is about 90 most days this week, of course it is humid and the mosquitos are thick. But we haven't had it nearly as bad as the East Coast. We had the 17th hottest July on record which really isn't terrible.

For once we Chicagoans can't complain about our weather too too much Nothing here nears the misery of hot and humid Manhattan. Oh, the smells ...

I quite like the summer weather we're getting at the moment in Ireland. It's around 67F here at the moment. There are some clouds in the sky, and there is a chance of rain later on this evening. We only get around 2 weeks of weather over 75F every year.

It is warm enough to wear a summer dress without thinking that you may die from hypothermia but if you want to wear a moto jacket and skinny jeans, you probably won't overheat. In fact, I am finding that my moto jacket is the most versatile item in my wardrobe in this weather as it looks summery and is waterproof. Hopefully it will transition well into September and part of October with a scarf and a hat.

Maya snap I LOVE the snow too. Working with kids I get to pull on my wellies and go out and make snow angles and snowmen. God I love my job! x
