Denim dress -stumped for shoes

I bought a winter-y denim dress at the start of our Southern Hemisphere season, after missing out on a summer denim style that I really liked.
I haven't managed to wear this dress yet, even though the weather is now cool enough. I'm really stumped with what to put on my feet.

My shoe choices are flat, flat and flat! There is a 5cm heel on the sandal, but to me they seem seasonally confused with the dress. Apart from the photos, I have a pair of long black (flat!) boots, and I think they'll be ok with black tights and the dress. Mind you, boots and tights are really only for our very coldest days, or travel south.
I wonder if my legs look a bit bare with the short boots.

The dress also has belt loops, but I think it might look better without it. Or does it need a different type of belt?

Comments appreciated, and I won't be upset if you suggest I need to go shoe shopping!

I would probably go with a neutral/tan bootie if it's a more wintry look. Or wedge sandal for more summery. Or a flat neutral sandal. Or pointy toed leopard or colored flat. I may change my answer after seeing a picture.

I do fishnets and boots. It gives a funky look . I'll chime in again when I see the pictures.

Shoe shopping is always fun! However, I like it with the booties and belt (and you could add tights when it gets cold) and I also like it with the yellow shoes without the belt. I wasn't sold on shirt dresses until I discovered YLF, but now I have two!

Pic 3 is my fave too. Also like it with the yellow sandals. Prefer the heels least, as to my eye they are dressier than the dress.

RobinF, I've been searching for a belt in a similar colour to my boots. Nice to know you think the belted look works. I think the dress will be a little softer after a few washes, too, and might sit better belted then.

Thanks, delurked. The sandals are really my only pair of heels. I won't wear that combination : ) I thought I might learn from the pics whether a heel was a better look overall.

Helen - it's not that there's anything wrong with the heels. They are neutral and not super dressy. I just like the casualness of the other choices better.
Is that a doggie in the background in pic 1?

5,6,7 are Fab to me. Yeah I understand about work. I've seen some cool looks with grey tights underneath pattern fishnets.

Yep, that's my little photo bomber. I think this week she needs to join the other terrier-ists. She's finding new naughty things to do!

I think a sandal bootie or cage sandal would be fabulous here. Examples below.

You can also wear sneakers or a slip on sneaker.

The booties also work although might be better with tights. A nude-for-you or light taupe bootie could be great, or one that bookends your hair colours.

I like the dress unbelted best.

All the footwear options work, but I like the grey booties best. Nice frock too.

It looks like the boots are too warm for the rest of the outfit. I like all your shoe options, and agree with Suz that sandal booties would look good.
I think the belt needs to be tighter or thicker or something...I do like the belted look on you though. It looks like you have a tiny waist and it might be fun to accentuate that (although unbelted is a good look too).

Suz, thank you for the shoe suggestions. I have been looking for a sandal bootie, and your find 8 is exactly what I want! All the ones I've seen so far have been too high for me. A cage sandal would also be practical for our warm weather, as would slip on sneakers.

Smittie, I agree that the belt is not quite right. I will see what else I can find to play around with. I'm supposedly an hourglass shape, though short waisted, so I don't always feel right with a belt. I better read Angie's wisdom re belts again.

Angie, so I'd be safe to leave the house in any of these choices? I'll try the booties with some light tights, too. Thank you for commenting.

I like it best with the grey booties too, and both with and without the belt. Caged sandals would work really well but a moderate heel height is really hard to find at the moment. There will probably be more available when spring gets closer. This type of peep top shoe would also work I think (it's similar to some of Suz's recommendations).

I think it looks really good on you, both with and without a belt. I like the sandals Brooklyn recommends. I love the Paul Green sandals also (Suz's #3).

The yellow sandals are so cute! I like the pairings with sandals and the shoes in 7 for bare legs.
