Considering slippers

Slipper noob here! I can't remember last time I owned any, because I just walk barefoot or with socks in the house.

I did see some at the new little boutique that got me wondering if I should get some. They were fleece lined and looked cozy, don't remember the brand.

Normally I just put on my mules if I'm just going to the post box or car or garage in winter, but they have a bit of a heel and don't fit with the socks I wear at home. I can get away with my Birks with socks for a couple more months, but should start thinking about it now.

Anything I should look for, or avoid?

Sounds to me like you want scuffs! As easy on & off as your mules, but closed-toe & you can get cozy fleece lining for winter.
If I wear slippers at all, I want to be able to slip them off instantly, because I often sit on my feet.

I got these earlier in the year and love them but they are a NZ brand. Five Star Slippers. What I like is the rubber sole and design meaning I "could" wear them to drive in the car or similar. I have been known to drive to yoga in them...They look tidy and are supportive.

I find ugg boots too hot for me.

I look for something that will stay on my feet in a color that bookends my hair. I like something that has a rubber sole or that can be worn outside for a quick trip to the mailbox or go get the newspaper. I like them to look like loafers rather than too much like slippers. You must have carpet to walk barefoot and stay warm enough. My all time favorites were Vionics but I have had some from Target that I liked. The Vionics did not stretch out with wear and felt secure. My socks are fairly thin and work with slippers. I look for unpadded Smart Wool or other thin wool.

Last year at NAS, I got sneaker mules to serve as slippers, and that has been an excellent decision, due to all the extra time spent on my feet at home now that I WFH.

Yep we have carpet, but even when I had wood floors I just wore socks inside. I definitely want mule style, cause I want quick on-off. My boat shoes are Vionic and they work well, but Birks do too of course! Definitely a rubber sole, but would probably get black cause I only wear black at home for the most part.

For what it's worth, I'm a big fan of L.L. Bean slippers. I've had the same pair for about eight years and am planning on replacing them soon with another pair of the exact same slipper. They held up really well for a long time and they're SUPER comfy.

My son absolutely loves his Giesswein slippers, and they make mules/scuffs. I can’t exactly recommend them for you though—he went through a ton of others until he found some that fit his feet just right. I expect you need to do the same, hope you can find a retailer that restocks returns.

I was late to the slipper game,but now i cant live without them…the brown LLBean was my gateway pair…and about 2 years ago i got the OluKai pair, the back folds down so they work/wear as a mule but also work/wear as a full shoe…the lining is soft and warm…i wear them inside only, and the are fabulous on my cold tile kitchen floor.

I like the idea of having a back that folds down too, but have trouble keeping any shoes with backs on my very narrow heels. All these look so cozy!

I like felted wool slippers with a rubber sole (in Finds), my kiddo prefers shearling with a leather sole, and DH wears cheap fleece ones. I may upgrade his at some point, because the polyester starts to get pretty funky after a few years…

I am a fan of Patricia Green slippers. They are lifesavers on my cold slate (!) kitchen floor.

I probably can't do wool, even with socks I'd think it would itch too much!

I prefer a slipper boot (like an Ugh, basically) because it keeps my ankle warm and it prevents the whole need for a decision about socks, pant cuffs etc. Everything gets stuffed into the top of the boot.

Guess it depends on how cold your feet get. I do The Great Sartorial No-No of donning fluffy socks with my open-toed slippers (not thongs, but a thick wide strap). Such a look seems to be acceptable behaviour over here (even worn outdoors, with a puffer) lol

Well I have my Birks for that! I can generally get away with them through December with socks, but not Jan and Feb
