Thanks for helping me think this through!
nuancedream: I think you're right. I've decided to go with cool colours, and use orange as an accent! I am thinking a watch, gym bag, scrunchy, or something else that's small-ish.
Bijou: thanks! Yes, orange is luxury I like the way you think. I'm really feeling orange right now, but as I mentioned to nuancedream, I'll leave it as something small for now.
Angie: Thanks for your input! That's basically the palette I'll go for, but maybe a bit cooler.
Liesbeth: I thought about your comment about having a tight palette of neutrals and then adding in lonely colours. (Suz mentioned the same thing.) I think this is the way to, and not only that, but I realized that my tight palette of neutrals is really only 2 colours for winter/fall: charcoal and light grey! I think of black and navy as complementary.
My refined palette is:
Basics: charcoal and light grey. I'll need 1 of everything in these colours.
Complementary: deep purple, forest green, navy, black, dark brown
Accents: pinks, orange, true red
