You are inspirational--a no-nonsense, non-sentimental way to do it. I too tend to buy 40% off sweaters and tops at BR. As I'm bringing out my fall clothes, many items bought last year, I ask myself, what was I thinking, other than cheap? Back a decade or so, BR merino sweaters were very nice and came in lots of good colors. And they would last years.

I don't like plaid either--reminds me too much of my growing up and young adult years. I can't stand it on DH either. Although I admit I'd like a nice plaid scarf.

Congratulations on a fab edit!

Lisa, your post is very helpful. I tend to be very sentimental about clothing which makes it difficult for me to edit. I hear you about the plaid. It never feels right on me.

Wow Lisa, I'm impressed. You did all this in one day? AND had time to write a long post about it? I'm exhausted just thinking about that. Although having said (typed) that, I can be pretty darn productive on an unexpected day off too, if the family isn't around!

I am going to re-read this a few times and hope that some of your no nonsense approach sinks in.

Thank you, all, for your thoughts here. Often the benefit of writing about an edit is to solidify the results and lessons in your own mind. I found this particular edit quite helpful...likely because I was paying more attention to the "whys" and not just cold-heartedly chucking things out. I'm finishing off the edit with my boot collection today - even more inspired to get real about boots with heels. At least 3 more pair are destined for the chopping block!

This is awesome Lisa; a wise and well-thought-out editing session. Now can you tell me how to REMEMBER all these lessons going forward? Because I seem to learn stuff and then promptly forget it lol!

I hear you too on the trendy jeans - I want to update them, but between practicality and availability of styles in the stores, I haven't found much that I love. Hopefully as the silhouette changes up more, there'll be more options.

Wow, nice job! I am so bad about getting rid of things that didn't get much use. I really need to be honest with myself and, instead of pretending that I will wear them, figure out why I won't and move on. I'm with you on button down shirts, I feel like I should like them but they never feel comfortable on me.

GIDDY about the imminent boot edit.

I need to do a boot edit too. I kind of dread it, because there are some I’m feeling are becoming “dated for me” and replacements are bound to be pricey. But also excited to free up some space in the closet.
