Closet cleanout: booties!

The weather has officially turned, and I’m excited for boots season. But I’m not really excited by my booties right now. I think it’s time for a purge and refresh. Thinking I might need something in a rich cognac, or maybe grey? But I’m not adding until I make some space - can you give me your thoughts?

1. Botkier (brown), Dolce Vita (white). Plan: keep both

2. Sole Society (green), Frye (pink).
Plan: Keep? Donate? Both are solid, but not outstanding.

3. LL bennett (tan, left), Blondo (taupe, right)
Plan: donate both? Love the blondos, but they have color transfer from jeans, so need a replacement. LK’s just don’t speak to me.

4. Blondo (snake), Jeffrey Campbell (black croc), Boden (navy embroidery).
Plan: Donate Blondos? Keep the other 2.

Keep both in photo #1 and ALL in #4. Also, keep the pink Frye’s. The rest can go. The Botkier are gorgeous, and if your avatar pic is up to date, must bookend your hair beautifully. Snakeskin is still trending strongly as well.

Agreeing with Runcarla. The Frye's are timeless and such a great color. Love the snakeskin--those function as a neutral, I'd think. Are you having trouble styling them? I think a cognac would be brilliant with your hair color!

Without knowing any more about how easy or hard any of these are to style, and anything about comfort level, I like both in #1 and the first two in #4. The others feel a little less fresh to me. I think if you’re feeling over any of them and don’t have trouble completing outfits without them, they can go.

Nice collection of booties - like most of it ( except one with color transfer - that should go ). All booties in pic #4 are so much fun - embroidered navy boots as well .

4: I think I have the same snake booties and they’re in the car to donate. I just couldn’t make them work. In theory I really like them.

You have a great collection! Agree with keeping #1. #2 and #3 I would pass on. #4 I would keep the snake. The croc ones look like a sling back? Are they like a sling back shootie? If they are a boot, I would keep them... and I would pass on the embroidered ones, but I struggle to style ornate shoes, so take it with a grain of salt

I like booties that have a higher shaft these days, so as not to have exposed skin in winter.
I’ve noticed that flattish or platform boots are more the trend this fall.
Having said that, I love me a pointy toe fancy ankle bootie with a heel. I also own the navy pattern Boden boots in your #4 photo. I went grocery shopping in them yesterday morning and got two compliments on them.

I would pass on both pairs in 3.

I love the first two pairs and I like all the rest.....with my favourites of the rest being the snake skin, the Jeffrey Campbell and the Fryes.

I see lots of very chunky, lug soles etc around online for your winter. I think it depends what your needs are (indoor, outdoor, dressy, casual, dry, wet, snowy)

I do find having one pair I am not precious about to be important - tidy and not exactly rain boots - but to wear on days when it might rain, or I am on grass, or rough ground etc...One of the pairs in 2 might fill that need.

Booties are one thing I'm adamant about keeping up-to-date . I like both pair on #1, the pink Frye's and all in #4. Why don't you like the snake print? I'm just curious, because it's not my favourite to see on my foot either .

I agree pretty much with Carla and Lisa and probably some in between. Keep both in #1, the Frye boots, and the snakeskin with the others in the last one. But I love snakeskin booties, maybe you don't?

A lovely collection of bootees. I like the green ones in 2. Other than that I’m agreeing, keep all of 1 and all except the snakeskin in 4.

What a nice collection. The taupe? Blondo s in #3 are my most worn booties of all time. Snake are the second tied with Lucky pewter booties with working side zippers on both sides. Don’t forget to keep something light to wear on cold spring days. The white would do nicely. Think of when you wear the booties you would donate. Ask yourself what you would wear instead. I wish I had a pair of olive booties. Today I wore olive Ponte pants and my pewter booties. Wishing I had olive ones They may be on their way out as the no longer feel comfortable for wearing most of the day, but maybe the socks I was wearing are too thick.

This is a hard category for me to judge right now because I’m not wearing “inside” booties right now...but I’m game to give it ago,
based on the pictures alone
1 keep both-them look like they are in good condition, and the colors are nicely neutral
2 donate both -the 1st pair is looking like its past its prime and the 2nd looks (i know Angie doesn’t believe in this) dated
3 donate both-both look like they’ve been loved and have seen better days.
4 keep all —all look like they are in good shape and are unique and add a pop to any outfit

So many pointy toes! I’d set them aside for a while, or donate if that’s what you prefer. I don’t see color from the jeans, but if you can’t get it off, you’ll want to move them on as well. Beyond that, I don’t know you’re wearing well enough to say. What would you do with grey that you can’t do with the snakeskin?

I agree keep all of #1, first two of #4. The others are nice but not as fab to my eye. Maybe keep the green ones too. I love snakeskin but find it hard to style. I have some snakeskin mules that I rarely wear - they just feel like too much on my feet.

Pricking up my ears...what all of you decide.
LisaP i tried and don't like a light colorway pattern on my shoes in fall/winter as I feel like they attract too much attention down there without achieving my general favourite look of long and lean legs as I usually dress my legs in darkest colours possible for colder season-(so a lighter color will cut my feet separate to my legs at ankle).

I have a pair of snakeskin higher heel mules that I never wore - took them back off every time I put them on. I do lots of pattern mixing but for some reason find snakeskin tricky . They also make feet look really big .

You have an enviable collection of booties, Gretchen. Keep all of #1, the Fryes, jettison both in # 3, donate the Blondos and keep the other two pairs in #4

Funny to read the comments about the snakeskin booties, which I love at first glance. Then I realized that for me a snakeskin pattern with white feels not quite right unless it’s a sneaker or summer shoe. But my brown and black snakeskin booties are favorites. Maybe if you’re not feeling the ones you have, a darker reptile print may be the answer.

My sister is looking for those snakeskin Blondos - what size are yours? She might be interested in buying - PM me. I have them, and I am looking forward to wearing them more this year. But, I posted on Style Exchange that I am not wearing my Naturalizer Macayla sneakers at all that Janet just posted above, and plan to sell or donate. Weird about the snakeskin!

I have several year old Sam Edelman Pettys that look like your taupe suede Blondos, and was just noticing the dye transfer situation as I got my collection out.

I'm with others -- I like both in #1 and all in #4 and the Fryes, but am curious to hear your own thoughts!

I have the snakeskin Blondos and love them but I've only worn a pair of booties once so far this year -- not going out anywhere!

I love that several of you caught the 2 that I"m most on the bubble about.

For the snakeskin - I think Janet may be on to something. They aren't neutral enough to really be a neutral in my mind, but they also aren't distinctive enough to really call attention. LisaP was this what you felt? Laurie they are a size 8M. If that works for your sister PM me and I'll happily send them her way.

I think I'll give the Fryes another season. The color means they work in spring, and kellygirl queen of the Fryes approves!

Waving at my embroidery twin Ummlila! The Boden embroidery boots are my definition of "extra" and probably my most complimented pair of shoes ever. (although, the white dolce vitas also get a lot of comments).

Lynn I generally agree with you about keeping a longline. I have found though that bookending my hair with the brown boots, or going for some contrast (white) or attention (embroidered) makes me feel more polished. Horses for courses as Angie would say.

Joy thanks for the reminder to think about pairing, and Sal has a good point about keeping a pair for not great weather. I think since the ones I"m passing on are mostly light or not-neutral, I won't be missing on an outfit look. And since most of these have heels, I think it's probably better to rely on my more gear related boots. I do have 3 pairs for rain, snow and "outdoors".

Appreciate all your feedback -- now to start browsing. Maybe I'll get lucky with a Black Friday deal!

First things, first. Pass on booties that are uncomfortable!

I vote donate both pairs of boots in picture #3, and keep the rest.....if they are comfortable.
