Clark shoe review - also on Cheryle's post

Guess what I came home with?

First off - I think I deserve points for braving the mall during Spring Break. Oh my god what a nightmare. I totally forgot it was this week - who ARE all these people??

I would definitely prefer them in black, but I like the taupey shade too. I'm still going to test-drive them at home before I decide, but I think they are going to work! Here's what didn't work with the Okalas:

*leather too stiff and inflexible on forefoot - had the leather been softer, it might have worked
*forefoot part/vamp edge cut across too low on my foot and was too narrow - and i do not have a wide foot, just an ugly bunion on one foot that nixes wearing low cut vamps (and peep toes)

Here is what's great about the Clarks:

*much softer leather - already can feel how malleable it will be for forefoot comfort
* higher vamp without looking dowdy - and provides just that much extra coverage over the bone on the side of my toe
*very walkable heel height and good back/ankle support

only drawback - because the heel is so low, they do make one's feet look bigger than usual . I also have quite a bit of extra length at the toe, they could be bordering on a half size too long, but this gives the most comfort on the vamp.

I just want to walk around in them a bit today to make sure my left foot stays hidden inside the shoe, but I think they are winners! No wide widths available, nor did the SA know if black were coming . Pictures below - sorry for the white scary-looking feet - it's cold today and my skin is turning blue and white

They look good! I may stalk them for awhile. How gray vs. beige/warm are they? I'm looking for something that leans cool and gray.

Their colour name is "grey combo" but there is nothing grey about them. Decidedly taupe with a slight rose undertone. Very slight though.

They look nice and I like the lower heel. I too have a bunion that I try to conceal. I have several pairs of these that work for me :

They do come in grey but are shown on a different page on the web site. Pretty inexpensive too. I have brown leather and black suede plus an animal print pair . I wore the brown last year to a wedding and I have to say they were comfortable, I danced a lot and my feet were not killing me ! I have two sizes a 7 and a 6.5. The 7 is a little loose over the top of my toes but fits a little better with Mrs Bunion, as I call her
I also have a pair of Okalas which are ok but not comfortable as these, they hit Mrs Bunion in the wrong spot.

Those are cute on you! I have never been able to wear Clarks -- too wide on my feet. It sounds like they are offering more styles now that work for a lower volume foot.

I hope a pair works for you. I'm getting excited hearing these raves and will be following along because I also have a bunion (right foot) and greater than 1/2 size difference between the two feet making shoe shopping quite the nightmare!

Oh this is very hopeful! Thanks for doing the legwork Lisa. Now I'm even more excited about my black ones arriving. And the fact that the leather is soft means if they are slightly too narrow in the forefoot, I can stretch them. They look fabulous on you.

Angie - Canada can't sell BR footwear. Some import rule or another. Wish we had them though - those are lovely shoes.

Shannon- I'm not convinced I'm going to keep these - we'll see. They are giving me mother-of-the-bride vibes . I think it's the heel height (or lack thereof that's throwing me off) Black would be better. So - where did you order them from? I went back to the Bay's website and couldn't; find them. Why am I spending so much time doing this when I should be working is the bigger question

Ooh! I love them! I don't see MOB but if you do, it could be the pinky rosey taupe that contributes to the feeling...there was a time when there were quite a few MOB dresses in those tones and maybe there is carry over. I am seriously going to investigate these. What I like is the fact that they have the heel; this makes them wearable for longer in our climate, to my mind. I mean, you COULD wear them with nude hose if you absolutely had to. I wouldn't want to, but you know what I am saying.

ETA: I actually really like this colour if you need a "nude for you" shoe. Very elegant.

Suz - I know. They are dead practical. I need to try them on with jeans and a skirt or two to see if I can rid my brain of the MOB image. Good god, I've turned into my mother.

What I like most about them is the closed heel back. I like the comfort of sling backs but can't wear them with pants unless they are cropped so that the pant doesn't get caught in between my heel and the sole of the shoe.
I think they look good but if you are on the fence, try them with a few outfits and see how they feel/look. If you don't want to wear them with much, that may be the sign you need.

You're right Cheryle, and the closed back gives them a bit more wear on the calendar too.

I agree - the closed back is a major plus. Would you say they are true to size Lisa?

These are an 8/39 - which is pretty much my usual size. I didn't even try on a half-size smaller, and if I didn't have the one foot to consider, I'd maybe have persevered with a smaller size. I have a good inch from the tip of my big toe to the point of the shoe. They are also roomy through the heel box . I also don't wear hose, so you know when it's hot, your feet are hot, etc, shoes fit a whole lot differently than they do today when it's turned winter again. The fit of these will be perfect, I think.
