Choosing between three Broderie anglais tops….

Hello wise people. My next planned wardrobe add is something Broderie anglais. It will be my first Broderie piece. I am choosing between the three options below…. Each has their pros and cons!
I love them all really, that’s the problem.
The cropped French Connection: more “on trend” because it’s cropped, but that makes it more limited in what trousers/skirts it can be worn with. Also it’s voluminous which will likely reduce jacket/cardigan options….it’s bright white.
The Reiss l/s: the most feminine and beautiful, but seems like it has a more boho/peasant blouse feel. I think I would need to wear it tucked in to give it enough structure. It’s definitely cream rather than white…. Which may be more flattering on me.
The Bianca long sleeve: the Broderie itself is less plentiful…. But the shape of this shirt is much more classic…bright white.
Any advice? Much appreciated!

Well 1 or 3, but I am keener on bright white than cream. I do think the overall vibe of #2 detracts from letting the broderie anglaise ( which I have loved since my teens) shine.

And 1 is better for summer. But not as true a broderie as 3.

Jenni: I agree the Reiss is more about the shoulders than the Broderie itself… as for cream… well it is probably harder to find other colours to go with, given that bright white goes with everything, cream is a bit more restrictive.

Oooh I would definitely choose 2. Number 3 looks very average to me and the bright white looks cheaper than cream, to my eye. And number 1 is cute but I find that kind of short but big blouse feels annoying on the body, always flying up if it’s windy!

2 is prettiest to me, but that v neckline is deep! I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t like that much air, lol. 3 seems easiest to wear to me.

I like #1. It looks more contemporary to me with the geometric cut-outs and the voluminous shape. I also prefer crisp white to cream by a mile. But I am also not a fan of peasant blouses and the third one is giving me western vibes. Overall, I feel like these three blouses are very different from each other and you really should think about your overall style.

I like #1 ( and it's the only one I can pull off - lol ). The second is gorgeous but has certain limits in styling. The third one is sweet but too casual to my eye ( probably just me ).

I like #3. I cannot wear such cropped tops, and not into peasant tops. You really need to consider your style and your colouring. Would be helpful to see them on you and then comment.

As a major broderie anglais fan, I like them all too! I can vouch that there is something very cooling about wearing white broderie anglais in the height of our Australian summers.

Of your selection, I have a slight preference for #2 because the romantic detailing is so pretty, and the open neckline would be nice and cool to wear. It is the perfect piece to wear out to dinner or to a summer party. I find boho really suits the Australian beachy summer lifestyle and embrace a bit of boho in summer for that reason. My only hesitation is whether your size is still in stock. I would pick you as an Australian size 6 or 8 (translating to US 2 or 4) and that top could be too much volume if you size up to the size 10.

Each top is pretty in its own special way, so I'd probably focus on the sort of look I'd likely wear the most often and then select the one that suits this vibe best.

In other words, I feel a strong temptation to get all three, and they aren't even for me. They are all different. The first would be great with crisp shorts in a strong color. The second would be good for around a fire on the beach. The third one is probably most flexible. How are you planning to wear this purchase/with what?

I like #2 the most, but agree the neckline could be too deep for comfort. It definitely seems the most special to me.

I should have checked your profile before commenting. Since you define your style as "romantic-ish" then #2 or #3 seem more right for you! # 1 is "my" style.

I love #2 the riess pieces, it’s a true statement piece. My 2nd favorite is #1 but given your misgivings about the cropped nature of those I’d pass on it. The 3rd piece looks nice, bit not as good as the other 2.

This is a tough choice! I like #2 for you, but #1 is a close second. The length of #3 looks potentially awkward; long enough to tuck, but not quite long enough to stay tucked.

Well, I'd choose #1 for myself. Clean lines, nice shape, emphasis is on the texture. #2 would feel too busy on me, and I don't have a romantic bone in my body. That said, I think it could look really lovely on you, and #1 might feel a bit too stark/boxy/overwhelming; I think you do better in garments that have a bit of delicacy. I'd try it and see if the neckline isn't too low! #3 doesn't really speak to me. It looks like it could be a very practical top, but I definitely prefer the more abstract broderie on the first two over the more literal floral. Hmm. Curious to see what you decide!

#2 or #3 are my choices. Love #2 but the low neckline wouldn't work for everyone. #3 is beautiful, too.

These are all beautiful ... I'd say you won't go wrong with any, although 2 and 3 seem more your style to me (although I really love 1 as well!)

They are all lovely. I am drawn to 2 because I like the neckline and this style of blouse in summer.

I would consider
- white or cream - which flatters you and works with your closet
- do you want long sleeves
- length - I find tops that sit on the waistband really useful without needing to be tickled - the length of 1 is good for that.

Sal brought up very useful questions to consider, as I think all our opinions can’t help but being based on our own preferences. That said, I love #3
It seems understated, delicate & versatile-which may not be what you’re looking for!

For myself I would choose #3. But if cream is better for you then perhaps #2 is a better option, especially since you do have a hint of boho in your style and moreover, it works in the Australian context. They are all very pretty!

I vote #2 for you. If cream is a better choice for you, I would go for that. The blouse has a romantic vibe and that suits you. The V-neck is low, but if you can work with it, I wouldn't let that deter you. For me, it's definitely #1. I'm with LaPed, not a romantic bone in my body so I steer clear of lacy, puffy and delicate.

Hi everyone, wow, thank you SO MUCH for your thoughts. I do feel a bit more clear now.
The actual broderie pattern on 3 just doesn’t appeal to me as much, it looks slightly cheap. and that very bright white looks too white for my colouring, which doesn’t cope so well with white.

So…. It’s really between numbers 1 & 2 now.

- Number 1, more on trend with the geometric shapes, and with the cropped and slightly voluminous cut. Slightly less “me” because I am not usually much into geometric patterns and really boxy cuts.

-number 2: very beautiful but harder to style and less trendy. Maybe more “me” because I like soft drapey fabrics. Only available in a size 10 which is one size above my usual…. But I think in this style it’d probably be ok… maybe….

Ok, I am getting closer to a decision now. Thank you all so very much- you are so helpful and clarifying!

jussie: Any chance your size will come back in stock? Or reviews that says it runs small? The size 10 will hit you lower in the neckline. . .

FWIW, I think #2 looks more like you than the other two. #1 depends on how much out of your comfort zone you'd like to go.

DonnaF: yes, reviews do say Reiss runs a little small, so I do think a ten would be alright. Yeah, number two is a real beauty. I adore it, but worry I just wouldn’t get a great deal of wear out of it due to its delicate nature.
HOWEVER: I decided to go with number 1; I just think I’ll get a lot more wear out of it because it’s white rather than cream. Also all the little holes Will hopefully soften the brightness a bit against my skin.
