Kinda liking this. Miraculously long enough. Love the color. I'm wearing flat sandals here. I know maxis are not universally loved around here but it's hot where I live and my life is very casual. Added a belt to break up the expanse of pattern in #2.

Pardon not great photo and no makeup yet. Wanted a quick response because I'm assessing some things before I make returns. Thx!

I LOVE #2!! I am normally not much of a maxi fan, but this is fabulous with the belt.

I think this is a keeper for sure, especially in a hot climate.

I think you really have the height to carry this well and the color is lovely on you. I like the belt idea, but think it works well without too.

I'm a certified maxi dress hater, but I love this on you! (I know, I'm shocked too.) There is something very sophisticated about the pattern on this one. I vote keep, keep, keep!

I think it is pretty hard for you to look anything but great, but don't know if this is the direction you want, if you have other options. To me the style and the print skew toward loungewear. That is my poison eye talking. The belt does help. So it might be a reasonable maxi dress if one has to have a maxi dress, but I don't think it especially does you justice as an outfit.

Also not a maxi fan so I'd probably look for something in a similar pattern/color in a hi/lo as Angie suggested or just in a midi length.

I like maxi dresses and understand how they can be perfect when the weather is hot. I like the color and pattern on this one and how it has fairly wide shoulder straps. Sometimes it's hard to find maxis that easily accomodate a bra.

It looks pretty both ways to me, but I have a naive question: if someone says they want a maxi dress because of the heat, is it actually cooler than a regular dress? Otherwise, what are the specific pluses of that length? I'd assumed it was just a different look.

Very 1970s! I have some pics of my mom and aunties dressed just like that in the early 70s, when I was a baby.

So, I'm not a huge fan of the casual maxi as a rule -- it's a lot of fabric! -- but you are tall and statuesque, and if anyone can pull it off, you can. That colour is lovely on you. And it must feel breezy and wonderful when it's hot out. How something feels counts for a lot. I don't know if your tummy is still sore, but if it is, that type of dress is just the thing.

Sorry for the delay in responding! Kristin, this is from Anthro. I saw a woman in this dress last night leaving the David Byrne and St Vincent concert! Looks like it might get popular.

Mochi, I don't necessarily want a maxi above some other style of dress. The problem for me is that I simply have a very, very hard time finding any summer dress that comes to my knees (much less covers them, which I often prefer). I have learned to expose my knees despite how unattractive they are, but sometimes I just want to keep them under wraps, you know?

Every summer dress I see that has any length to it is either too conservative/office wear, or too junior style with spaghetti straps, etc. I want something I can wear a normal bra with, that doesn't look like a tent, and has a bit of personality. You'd think this wouldn't be so hard, but it is, so I started checking out maxis. I figure I could always get a maxi altered to midi length, right?

I see some people voted nay, and if you'd care to share, I'd appreciate an honest reason why. Other than a personal bias against maxis. I posted this knowing that YLF is not necessarily a maxi-loving zone.

Janet, I say go for it. I have two knit maxi dresses (one a black high/low hem and another navy/cream striped) that I wear in the summer for casual at-home hanging out, or when I'm on a beach vacation.

I know there isn't a lot of love for maxis on YLF, but I think they're the perfect look for sipping wine on the porch in the summertime.

And that green is fab on you.

Prefer it without the belt. The belt makes me feel... restricted.
