I'm also debating trying some. I usually wait to pick up a trend until it's almost out, and my wardrobe is ideally meant to be timeless (but not classic - rather, edgy things that won't lose their edge).

I think culottes are always a fringe trend. They just happen to be around a lot more right now. But I don't think they've saturated the market enough that they'll look dated, if that makes sense? I just don't see them on people enough to get tired of them.

I feel the same about the cape/poncho I just bought. Yes, it's a trend right now, and probably in a year I'll see a lot fewer, but I hope my giant black cape will always look a little avant garde.

I have a pair from the summer that I really liked as an alternative shape, but their fabrication -- part linen -- is very summery, so they are put away for now. The ones you have identified feel more edgy to me, almost a little avant-garde in their drapiness, boxiness, and slouchy waist, which -- to greyscale's point -- suggests they might have even more of a lifespan. (Mine are a safer JCrew variation; they might have a long lifespan themselves due to being classic.)

Culottes are Retro. They will have staying power. Get them.

I live in the NE and work in a high end boutique and if they fit great these are keepers! You can wear them for two seasons and they are a great transition piece!

Thank you, everyone! It's been so interesting to read your opinions. Now I'm confident that my judgement was right.

Angie, you always give the best guidance. Thank you!

Just popped back to say Im wearing my culottes today Please do show them to us when you get them xx

How lovely to hear from you again, Deborah. I can very easily imagine you in culottes.

I bought the culottes in question ang wore them to work yesterday, and I love them. So very comfortable, and I felt dressed up, but not overdressed. They hit me higher on the waist than on the model, and I paired them with tall black heeled boots. I will try to take photos and share with you.

They might not be my most flattering piece, but that's really not an issue for me. I love their retro/modern integrity.

Ingunn, one of the things I find so attractive about culottes is that they are not particularly conventionally flattering. They are interesting and say to me that the wearer is creative and thoughtful about their clothing choices. Can't wait to see them

I love culottes. I actually kept mine from the last time they were in style (back in '04 or '06 I think) and am wearing them again. I see them in stores and on a few people.

Congratulations on your new job!

I got two black culottes in 2014. I was excited to get them on sale when I felt it was an emerging trend so I would wear them for a few years.

So far, I have worn one of them once, the other pair twice. I really should have just kept one pair but I couldn't make up my mind so I'm splitting wears to be sure. They are appropriate for warm Spring, Summer, and warm Fall. So I should be able to get a lot of wear from them. But I find they are too dressy for my lifestyle so not worn a lot.

Absolutely no one wears them where I live, but I live in a redneck county where they just started wearing skinny jeans in 2015.

I think you should get them IF you are committed to wearing them to work. I like my culottes but don't have a job like yours (I wear a uniform) so constantly have to deal with orphaned clothing.

Oooh, can't wait to see the photos, Ingunn! I love the idea of coulottes with tall boots, that's how I would wear them in my fantasy life!

Oh well now that you mention it I have not noticed anyone wearing culottes, but definitely enjoyed wearing my denim ones this summer. And have a couple of winter weight ones waiting in the wings. I say bring them on Ingunn! (and wonderful to hear from you!)

Congratulations on the new job. Nice to see you back! A bit late to the thread but...

I think this is a bit of a fringe trend. If it doesn't catch on in a big way I suspect it may turn out to be one of those long-lived left field classics that can lend a bit of individuality, like a harem pant or a dropped crotch. Or it may just die on the vine.

I found a pair from Comme de Garcons last year (deepest discount!) and I wear them quite a lot but of course being Comme they're an unusual shape which suits my style. I'm considering making some as well.

I also read this funny little article about culottes for men. I thought they looked kind of cool, but it's clearly a high risk look for the gents!

And I love me some Hope. They recently opened a store here. Haven't bought anything, but I've been in for a drool more than once. That pair look fantastic! I'd say high risk, high reward. Looking forward to seeing you in them.
