Can this skirt be saved?

I've had this denim skirt for a couple of years and have loved it. It is my only Anthro piece! Happiness factor was so high because DD picked it out for me on a lovely vacation to Santa Barbara.

However I've gradually become aware that the side view is really strange, so I never wear it anymore. To my eye the front and back views are fine. What's with that upward scoop on the front of the side view? Is it because I walk on it and there's no slit? Is my shape making it do that? Have you ever seen anything like it? Is this skirt, or can it ever be, wearable?

I seem to recall Mo having some kind of similar issue with a skirt? Can't remember the explanation...

I think this kind of side view is peculiar to the trouser front denim skirt (I've had a few). It's not bad at all, and you are probably the only one who notices it.

I like the skirt on you! It fits so nicely and looks great the way you're wearing it. That little bit of curve at the hem is not very pronounced, in my view. It's the kind of thing that would bother me if it were sticking out a lot.

A skirt like this that is fitted at the hip and straight or tapered, but wide enough at the bottom to walk in, will do a little of this scooping.

Can you go back to your love of the skirt before this gradual awareness dawned on you?

If not. . . you could alter the skirt to taper more at the bottom, by taking in the side seams. You might need to add a slit at center back or front then, though, in order to walk comfortably.

Skirts do this on me, especially the looser ones. Flat booty; my stomach probably sticks out more than my seat and waistband tends to slide down in back.

Donna, I was suspecting that the flat booty + apple situation had something to do with it, though I didn't see how. Firecracker, I think returning to my former love might be wise advice.

Claire, are you saying you've had skirts do this on you? I seem to remember you're not into trouser-front denim skirts anymore because of the zipper.

Una, I'll be very interested in what Mo might have to say, if she tunes in.

If it's not that bad, I was thinking--while I walked the dog in the skirt--that probably not very many people will be looking at me from the side while I stand still. Probably then I'll be walking, and I think it's fine then. Maybe I'll wear it to work on Friday (casual day).

if you love the skirt, keep it. honestly, when i check out others, i look from the front or possibly from the back. the only time i check out the side view is to see bubble butts. i know, i know...i have an unhealthy obsession with them because i am not gifted that way.

This looks fine to me but it is why I don't like skirts on me - I have a tummy & flat-ish rear too.

I've had that happen to me too when I do not stand properly, like if my abdomen sticks out and my bum is caving in. I don't know if that helps?

I think it's a function of the fabrication plus the cut. And I wouldn't worry about it; the skirt looks great on you whatever way you look at it! Having said that, a short slit at the back might help to prevent it.

Lyn, it's definitely worse if I tuck in my butt. I thought doing that was a good thing? Or is it good only if you have one? If I assume a more neutral position, it almost goes away.

bj, when you said no frontal lobe, for a moment I thought you were talking about my tummy, and was quickly trying to identify which aspect thereof you were discussing!

I've had skirts do this, always denim. And my bottom is not flat! I think Suz is right, it's probably the fabrication and the cut. Like the hem wants to roll upwards or do its own thing. Just an age issue of the textile?

I think it looks fine, though. So to answer your question, yes, this skirt can be saved - if you are comfortable with how it looks on you now. If you aren't, I say donate it or sell it, and get a skirt you loooooooove.

LBD, I'm feeling like denim skirts aren't around as much so I might not replace it. Or would, but not with a denim skirt. I'll see if I can enjoy it!

My experience is that a short slit on the back does prevent it. I did it out of pure anger with a beloved jeans skirt... As it turned out, my anger payed off and the skirt came back strong among my most worn peaces (it eventually gave up, since I didn't do a very... hm... careful job when cutting it).

I have had that... and I think it is a flat booty/denim issue. Honestly though - I wouldn't worry - no one is going to look at you and notice that specifically! The skirt looks great!
