For those who asked for an update to my earlier camera post...

I should have known better than to go to the camera shop, haha.

Walked out with a Nikon D7100, 18-200 lens and Kelly Moore bag that looks more like a purse than a camera bag.

The plan is to sell the D90 locally to recover as much as possible to pay for the new body and lens. The market here is anywhere from 25-50% or more higher than USA prices so I'm hopeful. Plan B is to keep both as DH has basically taken on all photography duties for the family though its always been a hobby of mine too (with two cameras we can both partake in the hobby). And far fetched Plan C is to get a second D7100 bc we see how great it is compared to the D90 haha. Guess it was time for an upgrade!

I still have a D60, but I'm very excited for you!

My dad used to have a point and shoot but after he saw the D60 it's mostly his camera now - I predict Plan C will kick in! That or; Plan D - DH will use the D90 for awhile, lust after yours, and you can upgrade again!

Ha lyn* - it's funny, this whole thing started bc DH and I were going to be in two places at the same time and both needed "good" cameras. The original plan was for him to use the D90 and I would take the new baby with me. Well, as soon as he got his sticky hands on the new one, it was over. The sales guy warned me this would happen, despite DH telling me beforehand he was completely content with the D90. So...long story...I think you may be right about Plan C. Stepping into the camera store after being away from the hobby for so long really re-ignited my flame for photography. But...I should use the D90 to learn for a while and not be after immediate gratification with the D7100. Guilty as charged...

Astrid, your post about the camera bag earlier today actually reminded me that I hadn't given the update. I was a little embarassed to admit what I'd done (gone out and bought a new body and lens) but I think it was a good thing. Now if I can just justify that second setup for ME...haha. Keep us posted on your camera & bag updates, too! I can't wait to hear how your trip goes.

you will love that 18-200.

I hate teaching couples who share gear because she always ends up with the older gear. Equal or better! You deserve it!

Yes, I'm definitely with Rambling Ann... What gives the guys the right to the better stuff? And I don't think you need to be embarassed at all, sounds like you did the thing that felt right to you. I guess if I had the money I would have already replaced my old camera too, but with the budget I had getting a new lens made more sense. I have it now btw., it's a Sigma 17-50 2.8. And I kept the bag. I was thinking whether I should get myself the 55-250 for the trip too, but I think I will wait until the budget allows me to buy the better STM version.

Astrid, I keep your post from a while back in my mind - it's also a lot about the photographer and their skills, not just having the latest toy. I'm glad you kept the bag and got the new lens. I'm sure you will take wonderful photos on your trip and hope you share some once you're back.

RA, From what I've seen so far I do love the 18-200!!

BTW, We had one of the rubber stays on the strap fall off so if you guys have any strap recommendations I'd love to hear them. Thanks again!

Optech straps really do make the whole thing feel less heavy.

Some shooter friends of mine love the BlackRapid system, but I never liked the idea of it hanging by the tripod mound, mostly because I use my tripod!

Another other shooter friend of mine is co-founder of Luma Labs. I have an older version that they don't sell any more, by my friends who have the new one like it a lot. I need to get the height right or it bruises my hip though.
