There are threads somewhere on the forum to show just how late and overcautious I was with adopting skinnies and boyfriends, both a staple styles in my jeans capsule nowadays. If I've learnt one thing from those two episodes, it was to give new styles a chance, however "not me" they seemed at first.
Cropped length, however, really pushed that too far. As a tall person whose jeans woes were 99,9999% times about the insufficient length, made even worse after learning about PPL, I was certain I'd let the new craze run its course without ever contemplating it. I'd be crazy to try what reminded me of all those frustrating fitting room moments when all jeans were too short, right?
But, then Angie (ah, that Angie) specified precisely which length is flattering to her eye, which immediately made things easier for me - without a sea of options to ponder over, I had to focus only on:
two to four inches above the ankle bone.
So, I calculated:
1. My regular inseam is 36" and my ankle bone is on 34".
(which means)
2. 2-4" above the ankle bone brings me to jeans length 30-32".
(which means)
3. 32" is out because it simply looks like too short jeans, which does wake up all those bad memories
(which means)
4. 30" could be worth a try.
I decided I'd give some regular style in the 30" length a chance as my attempt at cropped length. Today I went to the outlet shop and for the first time in my jeans-shopping-life I was facing endless options - every single style can be found in 30" inseam. What an experience!
Anyway, since I had no idea whether this experiment would work and there are no returns, I bought the style that looked like a decent candidate for cropped length experiment and also easy to convert to shorts if this is not for me. Thanks for reading and please be honest whether this works on me or not.
