Buy or leave? ETA: pics of possible blazers and loafers

I'm always looking for easy casual dresses for MOTG. A bonus if it can transition as smart casual for work. I like the light blue colour and the wash of this denim dress. Very soft and nice length. Sorry about the tags on my shoulder and hair that need a serious trim.

How is the fit of this dress? Could it be styled for smart casual?

I vote leave. I think it hangs a little stiffly. And I think it's milkmaid waif style, so it definitely should not hang stiff.

In my opinion of course. It's a good colour, and I do generally like the idea of it.

If you love it I say take it home. I would replace the belt maybe use it as a hair tie or something. I like the natural soft color but I'm not sure with the boots and tights maybe styled differently.

Hmm....I actually like it. I think to wear business casual style you could add the structure of a jacket over top and pair with pumps. Are you able to take it home and play with it and your wardrobe a bit before making a final decision? I do like the slightly looser fit for a summer dress.

I like it a lot. I was lurking last summer, and I think I remember that you searched high and low for relaxed but not bare summer dresses. Safari style, maybe? The dresses you liked ticked all my boxes, too, and so does this one. This light denim or chambray is a staple in my hot weather clothes and very versatile in this style.

I like Shannon's ideas re styling.
Without the belt and with a nude leg and neutral shoe it could be Fab for warmer weather.

rachylou: *lol* about milk maid wife I don't think the dress would come out stiff IRL

ladywone: bare legs or nude hose would be for sure be better. I forgot to mention that it was totally unstyled.

Shannon: I really like your restyling ideas! I could add my bright coral blazer or my cropped Helmut Lang jacket and pumps for a more dressed up style. I do have a kellygreen jacket with 3/4 arms, too. Yes, and the new metallic/white loafers. Flats for casual style and bright yellow cardi, maybe a denim jacket or a beige safari style jacket for casual wear.
I need to go back and check if I can take it home for a trial round.

JG: So true, last summer was a nightmare when it came to summer dresses. I think this season is better than 2013. Yay for similar dress preferences

Lyn D.: I did actually remove the belt, but forgot to take a pic. I think the dress fitted just as well sans belt.I guess I could remove the belt hoops if they bother me.

I think it could work for both work and casual and think the blazers you mentioned could be fun with it. Also agree with the suggestion to substitute something else for the belt.

I think it has potential. I do see rachy's point about the way it seems to drape or fall (or the way it doesn't seem to) but I suspect that is fabric sizing or something. It's a really versatile style.

Now I'm just a bit concerned about the sleeves - or the lack of it. I like the diagonal, but I have told myself to avoid sleeveless (or almost sleveless) due to chilly weather, even in summer. Temp above 25C/77F is rare!
