UPDATE: So, I’ve gone through the orders and see one place couldn’t deal with my card, so this is it. No more shoes coming in. The pictures I’m adding are of the same shoes, in the same order as the original series, to show colors better. I skipped the white ones.
16 = shoes from 4,5
17=6,7
18=8,9
19=10, 11
20=12,13
No new pix of my hair and it turns out the cut isn’t scheduled for Tuesday—that’s my dentist appt. Haircut will be Dec 20, right before we fly. I hope it turns out well!

Yes, newsboys of a century ago are my style icons. Sigh.

I ordered up a storm in recent sales, including a bunch of Josef Seibels. I’m not even sure they are all here yet, but the tower of boxes next to my laundry hampers (yes, they are a duck and a tiger and no, I have neither preschool children nor grandchildren. Sigh) is big enough for some initial try-ons and culling. What do you think?

I like the bright white, but am worried they might be so trendy as to look silly in a year or two. My light-colored winter footwear, the floral metallic boots, is dying.

4-5 are high top light brown Seibels.

6-7 are lower cut light brown Seibels.

8-9 are Gabor’s, same price as some of the Seibels, with less distinctive styling. I thing they’re going back.

10-11 Seibels that I think are too dark.

12-13 Seibels of a new-to-me color. It’s labeled olive, but could work with my blues & berries.

14-15 Bonus round! I think I’ll tell the person cutting my hair Tues that one of these is what I want, and the other is what to avoid. What do you think?
ETA I’m getting it cut only—no color, tyvm.

PS. Finds are similar shoes in my closet now (& by similar, I mean shoes that serve similar purposes in my outfits).

I like the ones you labeled as too dark, they would go with all of your cool berries and blues.

We are going to have to wait until all of the boxes arrive to make the most informed choice.

Personally I like how the lighter brown bookends your hair colour... actually, after some more thought, given your natural steel and silver highlights I wonder how taupe would work?

I like the best the bright white and#11. I don't think the white will look silly in a year or two.

FWIW, I wear white footwear all the time - have for decades! - and it has staying power for my style. It's signature

LOVE the white boots, but don't think you will get enough wear out of them with the palettes of your wardrobe. They don't bookend as well as silver, pewter and taupe either.

Of these, I like the lighter browns best!

The grey hair inspiration pics are beautiful. Are you planning to highlight your hair?

Interesting that the ones I thought were sure returns are garnering the most votes. (Angie, you mean the Gabor’s, yes?) And taupe instead of white, hmmmmmm.

Fwiw, my faves are the first and last pairs, and the taller light brown Seibels.

Angie, I’m just getting it cut, not colored. I chose grey inspo shots because of the grey in my hair.

My faves of these are 10-11, followed by 4-5, with 6-7 as a very close third. 12-13 seem really dark, but that could be how the color comes across on my monitor. I don't love the zippers on 8-9, so I agree those could go back (along with the white ones,) while you wait for everything else to arrive. And, for hair pics, I like the layers in 14. But honestly, I think you can't go wrong with either.

I really like the Seibels, especially the first two pairs but would want to see the last two pairs in brighter light. At any rate I prefer them over black for you. White works brilliantly for Angie due to her blonde hair, but I don’t think you wear enough white for them to work long term. For a light color maybe taupe or cream?

FWIW, the first two have a more Newsie vibe and the last two are slightly more feminine colors IMHO. To me, the Gabors looked ordinary and like they wouldn’t hold up. Sorry about your metallic booties.

I'm a huge fan of lace-up ankle boots! Great inspo shot, too. My favorite pair is the Seibels in 4-5. I like the darker Seibels in 10-11 and 12-13 as well, but something about the contrast stitching gives them a bit more of a work/utility vibe, whereas the ones in 4-5 are more in line with the newsie inspo pic.

Stag, I love the suggestion of a taupe boot for you. I've been thinking that's probably my best colour for bookending and I have a feeling it would work well for you, too!

First off, which are the most comfy? That may override some of my opinions below...

Another vote for the #8 Gabors I like the contrast zip for you (more variety for outfits), but do agree it looks less newsboy. For that, #4 wins out over #6 (though I can't quite tell if the higher cut is better than the lower one without seeing the whole shaft).

The #2 white ones are a great silhouette, but also agree they might not gel as well with your existing wardrobe - do they come in other colours? Speaking of which, the #12 'olive' ones look very dark - is that just the lighting? Otherwise I'd also place them in the 'too dark' category - the rich, warm colouring means my eyes are drawn more to the boots than you. I'd have asked you to just send #10 over to me if I hadn't already *just* bought dark brown boots

Sorry about the pewter metallic booties I can see why those would have been a workhorse for you, but they don't seem to be as 'newsboy' - so maybe see this as an opportunity to try a new style direction

Thanks, everyone, for the comments. I’ve read them as they came in and appreciate them all. Sorry it’s taken me a bit to get back to this post—I wanted to do a round of pictures to show colors well. I think the olive shoes deserved that, as well as the short ones with Oxford-style stitching. New pix are attached to the original post and I’ll put them here too. It turns out this is it, no more on the way. But as Synne pointed out, the problem is not that none of them work—there are plenty of good ones to choose from.

The wish for newsboy shoes fits very much with Bijou’s recent post about new items that reflect an old favorite (without trying to time travel/reproduce the past). I had some brown ankle boots in the early 90s that had a little more heel than these (but less than the red ones), and the shaft was a cuff/collar that could stand up or be folded down. I absolutely wore them into the ground—a couple sets of new soles, and then the sides started to detach from the soles. They were a tiny bit tight at first, so my feet hurt at first, because I wore them for miles a day, but soon they absolutely molded to fit my feet exactly. I’ve been missing them.

Zaeobi, they absolutely have to fit! And they all do.

The connection between the white ones and my metallic floral boots is that many people use metallics as their light-colored shoes, so the bright white would be a replacement for that. The suggestions that white wouldn’t work with what’s in my closet surprise me; isn’t the point of a neutral that it goes with everything? But it was kinda backwards of me to include them with the newsie shoes, because they’re clearly a different thing.

Kathie, thanks for your observations on each of them, and on the hair as well. Some of the Seibels have zippers, but more quietly. I’m not into zippers as a style feature.

DonnaF, “ordinary” captures what I was thinking about the Gabor’s well. I wasn’t sure if I was just caught up in the Seibel name, or if there was a difference for real. Good point about the white not bookending my hair—yet.

Rachylou, figures that you’d grab onto the contrast of those white boots as a positive, you punk! But Mirjana is no punk, and she liked them too.

LaPed, your Captain Thursday lace-ups were also an inspo for this purchase (as were the ones RunCarla calls her combat boots). Thanks for drawing my attention to that stitching.

Synne, you know my Kibbe better than I do! Your mention of leather has me thinking of my suede jacket and whether I’d like these to match it or coordinate in that way I often think is so interesting with fabric.

So I know this is it; I need to make a choice from these. I’m still not there. I like the olive more than I expected to, but I like 4-7 too. Still, this olive would get some earth tones (besides the golden mustard jacket) into my wardrobe in a way that coordinates with colors I have—and is not likely to be near my face. But they’re also the most expensive, over the limit I plucked out of the air a couple years ago as as high as I should go :/

My vote is for #4 (still) or #1 as my second choice. They look the coolest toned brown of the lot so would be most harmonious with your colors.

With the close-up pictures, I like 4-5 (16) the best. 10-11 (19) actually looks a bit dull in the close-up, so that's moved to 3rd place, with 6-7 (17) in second. How do they fit? Any differences? In the pics, 4-5 and 12-13 seem to fit well.

Strangely, I’m much more tempted to wear the white ones than the newsies, after missing those shoes since we moved here 3 years ago, maybe longer. Today I considered wearing 4-5/1, but decided my slip-on “school shoes” (the brown ones in the find on my op) would work just as well, because it isn’t all that cold out.

Kathie, thanks for the updated comment in response to the updated pix. They all fit equally well, are all the same size, mostly from the same maker.

Update: I’m nixing the idea of wearing the “school shoes” all winter. Wore them last night for a few hours, thought my toes would fall off, lol. I didn’t have heavy socks on, but I’m loathe to stretch those shoes out. So I will indeed choose a pair of newsie boots, probably 4-5/1. You all have convinced me that I do not need to spend the extra money for the olive greens. Thank you.
