Boots and crops?

I have been out of the fashion game for awhile, and when I came back, I saw that crops with boots is now a thing. I am not sure how I feel about it, but I am getting used to it.

A classic heeled long boot with culotte-type pants makes sense, because we saw it in the Seventies. But now there are just so many variations.

My question is, do flat boots look good with this? Or...are there comfortable heels to wear with this? Especially for someone who's not a model...I feel like flat boots with crops could be a nightmare.

I think at the moment anything goes...I am very fond of crops but there are plenty of full length pants around too if you like them better.

A couple of ideas
- sleeker boots with a higher shaft that sit under the hem - no gap
- matching boots to the pants - or similar colours.
- wearing socks that tonally match the pants can help

I wear all these boots with cropped jeans...I don't think the navy ones (top right) work as well as the others due to the lower shaft but with a dark navy sock they are acceptable.

I wear flats boots with cropped pants, jeans. Also sneakers, oxfords and everything else flat I like it but think that one needs to find a sweet spot for the length of cropped pants for it to work.

Personally I think the flat boots work in the model's photo you posted, because the shaft fits under the trousers (what a gorgeous deep teal btw! A lovely petrol blue)

I wear my flat lace up combat boots only with cropped trousers that fit over the shaft - I wear my wider shaft engineer booties only with skinnies for this same reason.

I really like this look! The photo you posted seems like a great example to me. I like it best when the pant covers the top of the boot shaft and when the pant hem has some ease but is not super wide. To me it feels practical and fresh (vs the narrow pants tucked into tall boots look - which I still wear, because it is so dang practical, but certainly does not carry that zing of novelty at this point) and the crop gives a kind of sprightly, lifted look. Maybe part of what I am saying is the lift of the crop counteracts the flatness of the heel? Anyway, thumbs up from me.

Gosh I think at this point almost anything goes in terms of pant length, width and style, and which shoes they are worn with. Particularly sneakers and boots seem to be having a real moment and are able to be worn with everything under the sun.
Of course I’m no expert though.

yes, flats are perfect for this look.

I wear this uniform all the time. For me the most important consideration is the shaft of the boot (ie how high the boot is on the leg) compared to the crop of the pant. I personally prefer no leg showing, same as your photo above, but that’s a personal preference.

I wear this all the time and am definitely not a model - haha! I agree with the other posters that it's best for me if the boot meets the pants. But I wear crops year round so also with loafers, sneakers and sandals.

I wear flat boots with cropped pants. This is WIW yesterday to go to the gym and run some errands afterwards. FWIW, it’s still winter and we have snow where I live. These are my warmest boots.

Flat boots and hi-top sneakers with cropped pants and jeans is in high rotation for my style! But the shafts of my boots are high so no leg skin showing. I stay very warm

What the others said! I wear this kind of look all the time. Wide legs, straight legs, BF jeans in crops -- flat boots with slimmer, higher shafts.

Thanks, everyone! And particularly if you added pics or links. This is still a hard look for me to get used to--I tend to take a long time to warm up to new trends/cuts, etc. At the same time, I pride myself on an eccentric style when I do try.

It is also hard for me to get used to wide leg cropped trousers. Years ago I had a gorgeous pair of herringbone wide led trousers that I was getting hemmed. I wanted them on the shorter side so I could wear flats with them and even show a little ankle. The tailor said that would make her cry and she wouldn't do it--she made it just so I could wear flats without stepping on the fabric. I see that has changed now.

I do like a Hard Days Night sleek boot and ankle pant look--maybe that's me dipping my toes into the water.

I'd definitely prefer sleeker boots, even if flat. And agree with no skin between boot and pant.

Watch out for rubbing with those taller shafted boots. I never did find any comfortable ones. Matching socks to pants has saved me.

I am also in the group that thinks cropped pants looked great with boots, as long as there is no gap. I like both flat boots and low block heels (1-2"). And high-top sneakers for super-casual.

I also love flat boots with cropped pants. My boots have a bit of a platform which I imagine makes my legs look longer.

Yes, I love cropped pants with flat boots, as Carla mentioned we have snow, so I like wearing the cropped pants because it works well with the snow and slush for no soggy hems. Like others, I prefer no gap between the hem and the top of the boot. As Irina mentioned, I like cropped pants with sneakers, oxfords and everything else flat too.

I have ridiculously strong feelings on this! I only like cropped pants with boots when you can't see any skin at all. So either knee high boots or short boots that are high enough to cover any gap between end of pant leg & boot.

But with shoes, I only like it if you can see skin between pant leg & foot.

There really is no logic to this....it just somehow looks wrong to my eye.
