I think California in general loves Boho style more than other parts of the country.
Although Boho is still alive as a style direction, I do think that some of the 70s inspired Boho themes that were popular from 2000-2011 are looking dated. Baby doll tops, anything with an empire waist. Possibly, dramatic flares/bell bottoms (I haven't pulled mine out in over a year, and wondering what to do -- I just got them in late 2011 and then wham, flares were suddenly very "out.")
The Boho items that are still "in" are kimono style jackets, headbands, scarves, lace & crotchet, prints, long skirts, layered jewelry. Wide-brimmed hats, palazzo pants. YSL in the 70s, still in. Runaways from the 70s, dated.*
* Big exception, Joan Jett's style which has become iconic and classic.
