Blackwatch trousers size smaller (ETA 3:00 pics of larger size added @ bottom for comparison)

Here they are one size smaller and in petite. Not slouchy but slimmer fit. As I'm wearing them they are loosening up. What do you think? I'm leaning towards getting since I'm still losing weight and I'd like to wear these until spring.

To be honest, I like the overall fit of the ones you already own better than these, especially if the waist can be nipped in to keep the pants from sliding downwards during the day. And do you really want two identical pairs of plaid pants, especially if the second pair might just sit in the closet for most of the winter?

ETA: Just went back to check the fit of your other pants; to my eye, the fluid fit of the ones you already own is more elegant and streamlined than the body-hugging fit of these. But only you know how they feel and look in real life; pictures never tell the whole story.

Check out my outfit post from today - inspired by you! The smaller size looks like the way mine fit. I like the slouchy, actually, but this is just a different and equally nice look. Plus if they won't fall down, that's a bonus.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to wear the smaller size a bit in the house tonight and try it with my tops and see what I think.

I love the idea of the fluidity and slouchiness of these but they have bagged out quite significantly throughout the day and I'm feeling sloppy in them. I will also look into having the waist altered so they sit up higher.

I the pants are winners whether you alter or keep the size down, if it helps. Which I am sure it doesn't.

If they're bagging out that fast, you probably should have the smaller ones. But in general, I agree with Gaylene about the more slouchy fit looking better.

Shannon, is there any possibility that the larger size could altered to get exactly the fit you are looking for with these pants? If I'm understanding this correctly, these pants are not returnable because you've had some alterations already done and it seems a shame to spend $$ on a second pair if the first pair could be adjusted to get exactly the fit you want instead of having to compromise...

I prefer the looser ones too for a slouchy look, especially if you can adjust the waist. Also, I didn't realize you couldn't return the bigger ones....I would try to work with them, but I don't know your weight-loss goals.

It's true I cannot return the ones I'm wearing today as I have had them shortened. Although with the leather yoke involved in taking in the waist, the cost of altering these so they sit better on my waist may be about the same price as the smaller size so I'm not really going to factor in the cost in my decision.

However, I do like the fit of the legs on the larger size (more fluid) so when I take my new red coat to Wonder Woman after work today to have the sleeves shortened, I will ask her about these trousers. I suspect having the waist taken in a bit so they sit higher up will solve my issues.

Will take back the smaller pair at lunch tomorrow - good thing I'm only 15 minutes from the mall!

Hey - me again. Sorry to be so needy about these trousers!

Yay for a private office and an iPhone with a timer app - here are pics of the pants as of 3:00 p.m. today. I'm not sure they capture just how baggy they have become. Would this bother you or am I being too picky???

(I have NO idea why my photos are loading sideways - my apologies. They are right side up on my phone and PC...hope you can tilt your head and still get an idea...don't hurt your neck though!)

I am late to the party. I am not sure I am really feeling either pair. I don't think either have a terrific fit on you.

I like blackwatch as more of a fluid fit, but not saggy.

Yes, it bothers me when my pants bag out and start falling down or become droopy overall. I have a pair of plaid pants (mine are ankle pants) and they fit me like the smaller size fits you - slim through the leg. I almost think you could go in between the two sizes - smaller through the hip and waist (like the smaller size), but a tad bit looser through the legs (between the smaller and larger size). I noticed pockets in these pants, so that makes leg alterations a bit trickier - you might loose the pockets - but if you don't care about that, perhaps ask Wonder Woman if she could take in the legs - not as loose as the larger size, not as narrow as the smaller size.

No matter what, they are gorgeous pants!

Hmm, I see what you mean about the pants loosening up. And, while fluid is good, having to constantly hike up your pants isn't great. Checking with WW to see if she can tighten the waist is a good idea because I definitely think those pants are worth some effort to get right. That plaid is really fabulous on you.

It would be interesting to see how much the smaller size grows if you wear it around the house tonight. My experience is that, while a tighter pant might loosen after wearing it for a while, it rarely loosens evenly. And I do love that plaid best in a streamlined, not snug, version. But, hey, every pant is different, so I'd definitely test the smaller size this evening to see what happens.

Shannon - these last pics are the larger size, is that right? I am finding that to be lots of stretch by end of day. Given that info, the smaller size are likely just right by end of day. Try them tonight for a few hours and see what you think.

Shannon you look great in both pairs. No question just different looks. But I think that tiny waist nip will give you exactly what you are looking for. The others are a more traditional fit. Nothing wrong with that and they look great on you but I am not sure that was the look you were going for. PS cost becomes immaterial when you factor in the pleasure of wearing the perfect garment because it will true staying power!!

Well I've been wearing the smaller size while eating dinner and they are quite comfortable so they do pass the sit down test. I'm going to wear them for about an hour and see how they look and feel. At the end I'll decide if the smaller size will work or if I will have the larger size tailored. Either way, I can't wear the larger size as is. I felt like a complete slob by the time I got home.

Thanks for all your help today everyone - I feel rather foolish for having purchased the larger size before really checking out my options.

I feel your pain. Often I just cannot figure out which of 2 sizes. Even with tailoriing options, I can be torn between whether to use an item for fluid or drapey fit vs. more tailored. I have gone back and bought a differerent size once or twice in an item I really liked (usually a TJMaxx type item, and usually a top of some sort) when after wearing it awhile I finally figured out how it needed to fit and work.

I vote smaller size. The fit makes it so much more polished. The sagging at the back in the larger size is not flattering at all

I am confused about your options, smaller, bigger, tailoring etc, I think I'm just tired. (Did I miss an earlier thread?) So no advice about sizing or returning but just wanted to chime in that the Black Watch looks great against your complexion and hair coloring!!

I vote the smaller size if they're comfortable. They look good on you and it seems they will give a bit with wear. To me it seems a better option than tailoring the other ones for the same money, especially if you plan to lose more weight.
