Black is back..!!!

I received the Lafayette 148 August catalog today and I almost did a jaw drop when I saw the predominance of black on black looks. Also B&W with a small proportion of denim, gray a smidge of brown (which I do not own). Clean, minimal, monochromatic, this could be my closet and I could make similar outfits. A bit more white than I own, but gorgeous use of texture/fabric/shine-matte/volume-tailored/detail/dramatic but restrained metal in belts or long pendants, minimal make up, clean bobs, clean unfussy but interesting clothing. It's my own little inspiration board, but in light of all the fantastic color that we've been seeing, I was surprised and delighted to see that black is back!

ETA: just checked out their website. Love the 8 great pieces, except the giant brown leather trench. With the Izzie blouse, could duplicate the look pictured. Need those pants in my closet.

bj - the trench looked almost black online...sigh...so Mata Hari!! Fantastic outfit..very chic! I really thought the catalog was well done - sheer/matte/shine so much texture but simple interesting elegance at it's finest!!

I do love some of their things -style wise but I am personally so over black at the moment. I think I OD’d on it and now I am emotionally ok with leaving it mostly out of my wardrobe. I have 1 pair of dress slacks and jeans left. I also realized as I got older that it was aging me and washing me out. Returning to natural gray hair helped seal it. Now I stick with navy and gray- especially with jackets or dresses ( close to face.)
But to all of you that love black and look great in it- happy shopping.

Lisa - yes gray and brown is very chic and less expected!!
Efbgen- one size does not fit all. The best thing is to wear what looks good color wise and feels good soul wise! I just was expecting to see a lot of color in the fall offerings and that at least Lafayette 148 is all about monochromatic tickles me silly!! Yup something for everyone!!
Greyscale - you and me both. Fall is my dominant and favorite season to shop for!!

Sigh. I love black. I just can’t help it!

I’ve been thinking that for my birthday I may want a classic black Moto - exactly like the one bj1111 posted in the pic.

I’m excited to take a look at the catalog. The idea of brown and grey is intriguing too. I don’t really own any brown but I’d love to try my new camel sweater with some grey flannel pants - preferably cuffed and cropped, if I can find them.

CC- The shift dress is very pretty but I'd choose a sleeveless of bracelet sleeves without embellishment like my beloved MM brunate shift or balanced diagonals like the theory daverin sheath. But that's really close so thank you for thinking of me!!!

Viva - thats a gorgeous moto and I really think you should treat yourself to one!! Moto jackets are survivor clothes. I feel tough, invincible, cool when I wear mine!! What better way for a little retail therapy to lift your spirits and every time you wear it you'll know that it's "tough girl" clothing. In this you can get through, survive and conquer anything!! I hope that will be on your list for fall!! Maybe with a pair of stompy boots too!!

Yes - I was surprised too! I loved the sock booties and long tube skirts. And in the past I've owned a couple of their silk blouses for work - such nice fabric.

bj - all super nice styles. Sooooo hard to choose just one, or two, maybe three......wantsies....... them all!!
Angie - agreed. Black always classic and available. What surprised me was the total black on black styling in a catalog. Yes, fashion week, street style, but catalog and pages of it. That totally did it for me!!
binkie - I like the tube skirts too. I just ordered one from Everlane which has not arrived. . Of course, won't be the same quality but good to test the waters! The sock booties are very lovely - an elegant and flattering style.

Wow, that is a killer collection. I’m taken with the Vita coat, slight cocoon with the black, grey, tan stripes. Love it! I also love the fitted jacket styles. Well-placed seams make my curvy body happy. I also love the rich brown leather trench but it wouldn’t work for my body.

I love the collection and the hair!!! The brown leather trench is TDF but is for my fantasy life. I don't wear much black but I love the simple but beautiful looks.

knittinggene - I actually thought the collection as a whole was incredibly wearable and elegant. And yes! Lafayette makes many styles that love curves!!

Style Fan - I know I adore that trench!! Thank god it's brown, otherwise I would be doing some heavy duty girl math and stalking! I would so feel like Mata Hari in that. Agreed, simple, sleek elegant. It's a beautiful concept in any colorway!

BJ, what is that jacket in #5? Droooooolllll...

I'll never say no to more black. I laughed at my NAS purchases because nearly all of them were black. However, I'm also fond of the grey/brown/black mixes shown in the L148 -- I'm inspired by the mix of neutrals in this coat in pic 1 (not necessarily the coat itself). L148 is a bit too dressy for me, but I do find the color schemes very appealing.

And oh my, that brown leather trench is gorgeous!

I actually snagged a very, very deep brown (almost black) suede moto jacket at Nordstrom Rack last spring from the markdown sale rack -- final price, $24, and it fits perfectly and feels like butter. I don't do much brown, but I can't wait to wear it!

Janet - I can't wait to see the new brown jacket! Sounds super gorgeous. I'm still glad the trench is brown, I would really be drooling if it was black!
bj - I have never hear of the company. They have wonderful things!!! I really love the black jacket too. Do you own anything buy them? Do they run TTS or small? Is the quality as nice as it looks? Thanks for sharing I must browse on a regular basis. Just wonderful!!
Katerina - I could see you in so many of those looks - just add fabulously dramatic scarf!! The the elegant clean lines and interesting details are what I see when I think of your outfits!
Jenn - I do think L148 is quite egalitarian in size range. They are just so darn expensive. But lovely, lovely things and very nice quality. In the few try ons, I thought sizing was also generous. But Angie and others would be a better judge.

I don’t have anything from the arrivals but there are a few items I’d like to try.

Massimo leather is actually quite good. It’s a great value at their price point.

I am so on the fence about those l128 essential pants! Floppy leg, narrow structured waist. I’d have them already but the price is a bit rich. I need to decide if I am willing or be able to keep my weight stable enough to wear them for at least 5 years.

After reading your post, I searched for the Lafayette 148 August catalog. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at the catalog. Black is definitely back.

Gryffin, in my youth I only wore black. From head to toe and loved it. So for me black will always hold a special place in my closet. I have a perfect long black leather jacket butI have high hopes that I have found my cropped leather jacket to wear with dresses and skirts. I feel that these are perfect to wear when I want to toughen up something that is just too sweet or pretty.

bj - those pants are so elegant. I do think they look best slightly loose and on very slim women for that Katherine Hepburn look. Being a rectangle, they are often not the best look because my waist is defined but often not small enough for the cut of this style. But I love it, hoping to see other sport this fantastic look!

Sterling - I was very impressed too with the looks. I did think they were so elegant and the clothing so versatile!! Good inspiration!

Bijou - agreed. I always need tough to counteract the pretty. My style would look too staid, Kate Middleton, without the tough elements. Not that her style is not fabulous but at 58 yo, going all out pristine is aging IYKWIM.
