The post about linen has me wondering, what do you prefer as material for sheets? Bedspreads? Pillowcases? There are so many options now - linen, cotton, silk, bamboo, microfiber or polyester blends of all different types that many people seem to like, satin, flannel, etc.

I very much prefer high thread count cotton sheets. They soften up as they are washed (and given how often sheets get washed, that happens quickly), they are relatively cool and absorbent (when it isn't cool). They can be safely bleached and they last well for me. Poly blend sheets are far too hot, and I've never felt a linen soft enough to sleep on. Flannel feels like sleeping on the soft side of velcro to me.

Likewise with bedspreads/blankets/quilts - I prefer 100% cotton in the summertime, although I don't mind something faux-furry in the winter. Regardless of the season, I prefer something soft enough to lie on top of. I also like cotton quilts because they can be washed in my large capacity washer at home, while most other things in King size need to be washed in a larger-capacity machine that I don't have at home.

As for pillowcases, I prefer silk, and I buy them separately. I'd like to try silk sheets at some point, although I am not convinced from the pillowcase that they would be worth the expense.

Over to you. Your thoughts? Preferences? Likes/dislikes?
