LOVE them, even with the outfit in the pics! They are fabulous, and you did an excellent job dying them.

Well, I see you've changed the title, so I need to say a bit more :).

It's a personal thing. Are you loving them? If yes, don't let your family rain on your parade! I don't care for black and white oxfords myself, so I can't be objective about them for you. If you love them, then go for it!!

I love them! Very well done. If you don't want them, send them my way!

OMG, they look so much better now- you HAVE to wear them.

Sarah, you have turned these shoes from "meh" to "wow". Great job!

thanks, all!

Jonesy, I think I do like them. I'm not so into black and white oxfords either, but I really like them with taupe in the mix, and I have learned the "power" of bookending (as you know) and how it works so well when blonde Angie (and Suz, for that matter) wears her black and white oxfords because it lightens up the bottom half or her. All black, these shoes always felt bottom heavy on me. I'm finding it very hard to wear black shoes these days.

I personally do not like them If you like them though, and wear them with confidence, then that's all that matters!

I say wear! And show us too!

Obviously I'm biased (LOL!) but I love them and cannot believe this was a DIY!

This is so interesting, Sarah - and here I've just gone out and bought TWO pair of black sandals this summer. Yeah, TWO. I had none before that, mind you.

I've come to the conclusion that a sandal, with the exposed skin, is different than a shoe. It's sort of like wearing a two-toned oxford, LOL! The light skin "bookends" the fair hair, while the black bookends whatever black or dark colour is up top, thereby "grounding" me.

If I am wearing a light top, I prefer my light coloured sandals.

Meanwhile, I am still in search of lighter footwear for fall/ winter, especially a pair of taupe boots -but also confused about how I will wear them. What tights and what-not to use. When you get back from your vacation, we will have to talk. I know you rocked your light boots last winter, both booties (which is easy for me) and knee-highs, even with skirts.

You know, I'm totally an old lady, but I'd wear those in a heartbeat! LOVE THEM!

*thinking hard* Now, where is that black pair of shoes that are hiding in the back of my closet....

Please dye mine for me? Or show me how to do this!!! I have similar pair of boring black oxfords. I love how comfy they are but they are just so.... SNORE...........

I would totally wear them more often if they looked like yours. Please tell me how.

I think you did a great job and I love them! I vote "wear!"

Thanks for all the thumbs ups!

Suz, yes, let's talk. I love my knee high boots, but only wear them with jeans or bare-legged. I'm not a "nude fishnet" gal, so I haven't figured out how to wear them with skirts and tights. I'm definitely in the market for some more lighter colored booties. You rock those DV's, and I love my Fryes, but I need some that are not as "western" feeling to wear with trousers - Angie's new snakeskin booties from NAS are amazing on her, but they were too "out there" for me (I lack the confidence to pull something like them off). So, where to turn now? I'm definitely looking and I'll let you know what I find.

Shiny, I'm happy to tell you! I used masking tape to mask off all of the areas that I didn't want to dye, including the sole of the shoe. I used Tarrago dye and followed their directions - I had to use several coats, and I realized a bit too late that the darker color, especially, "separated" very quickly, so I had to redo some coats when I hadn't mixed the dye sufficiently well and got streaks. The trickiest part was where the black leather overlapped the leather I was dyeing off-white. It was very hard to not get white dye on the very edge of the leather, and I did in fact get some dye on it - I cheated and covered up the white dye with a black permanent marker that had a fairly fine tip so I had some control. I also had a bit of bleeding of dye under the masking tape onto the heel/sole, which I was able to scrape off with a fingernail while it was still soft and touch up with the black marker. So, if you look really closely, they're not perfect, but, all in all, I was pleased with the results. FYI, the best Tarrago color chart I could find was here:

Clarissa (and Jonesy, Scarlet and Victoria and everyone else who's not sold on these), I completely understand that these are not everyone's cuppa, and I appreciate your honesty!

Sarah may I send you a pair of mine to dye please :). Just kidding:). I think you have done an amazing job on these and I like them a lot. But I do have a soft spot for black and white:). I would absolutely wear these and I love the addition of the taupe. I see you gate soooo much more wear out of the shoes in this incarnation. Cannot wait to see them in an outfit.

I like them. I think you did an amazing job. I might have preferred the white and black switched (but get that that would have been a lot more work). Maybe the taupe in a metallic (oh wait that's ME who likes metallic) You can wear them - looking forward to seeing them styled.

Wow -- great job! We should start a shoe-dyers club, with Rae as the president.

On last week's What Not to Wear, the contributor wore a pair of oxfords like these with a shorter skirt and tights. You can see it here if you skip ahead to around 26:30: http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/t.....rances.htm

It made me seriously wish for a pair of oxfords, and your post has made me double down on that wish.

I totally think you should wear them. I can't believe you dyed them and they look so awesome. I think the addition of the colors makes for a softer look.

OMG I want a pair of these!! I think they are adorable!! LOVE THEM!!! Love them on YOU!! Who cares what your family says. These are the bomb!!

Amazing job and stunning result. Please wear these a lot.

Love your at the cabin outfit too.

Wait, you took them from black to tri-colored? That's incredible! Those are fabulous! Yeah you have wear them!

Those are great! You did an amazing job!

Sarah, sorry to be late to comment on your AMAZING dying project!! My thumbs are up, up, up!

These are AMAZING!!! They are indeed like the Jeffrey Campbell oxfords but without heels. Wear them, wear them, wear them!

Sarah, am so late here - YES you should wear these! I can't believe you dyed them so perfectly. Sheesh.
