BB decision: it's going back...

I took a few more pics with the trench and I'm not going to post them, because just going through the exercise was a lightbulb moment. I want to look like Rae and Claire and everyone else who kept this trench, and because that's stuck in my head, I'm always going to fret about it. Also, I want to have the options of belting and wearing it open, neither of which seem to be best.
With the $ and a couple of other returns, I can stash away for a Burberry or continue the endless hunt.
Thank you to all of you who said it was a keeper, because I've learned that the color works on me, and the ongoing lesson that something can look fab (though I don't see it) but just not feel right.
Hopefully my trench is out there!
Before I send it back, is anyone interested in the 6P?

Smart decision. The BB looked fine on you, but I know there's another trench out there that will make you feel as fab as it looks on you. Maybe you and I can put the money into our Burberry piggy banks!

I also have a 6 Regular Navy and Beige if anyone's interested.

I didn't want to comment on the other thread because my opinion seemed out of sync with everyone else's. But this coat somehow seemed too big, even though it clearly fit in the shoulders (and perhaps even the rest of the body). I think the colour is flattering on you, and the length as well. But I think there is a more flattering coat out there for you. Never settle for something that doesn't feel right.

As Angie said, you have to wear whatever coat you get, not us! At least you road tested a new color. On to the next piece that will hopefully provide the look you want.

Is the 6 true? I'm loving everything about that trench, but I'm an 8/10 and though not busty, need a lot of room across the shoulders and length in arms. It there a 10 out there?

It's a 6P. I think it could fit a narrow-chested/small shouldered 8 and there is room on the bottom, but probably not a 10. Sorry - maybe you'll find one!

Rats. I'm just now reading your posts and I really liked it on you. FWIW, I wanted my BB to look like Rae or Elle in theirs and it didn't but I'm still keeping it. A couple of points:

a) It looked really edgy on you. Srsly.
b) Yes, you can wear that color, but it is a very uncommon shade. I have not seen a beige I can wear in any other trenches out there. Including Burberry.
c) In Inge's blog post, I noticed that petite Kelly wears her trench open, tied behind and with the front panels buttoned back against themselves. If you want to try this, it uses up some of the fabric so that it's not so overwhelming.

Just my two cents. Can you tell I want you to keep this? I think there's a 90-day return window if you want to hang onto it while you look for something better.

Hm, Claire is always making these excellent points...

One of the reasons I kept after the BB trench (even though I'm still thinking about that olive Burberry) is that I knew it would be a long time before finding a beige that worked on me. And I will even venture to say that this color looks even better on you.

Now I'm not saying keep something you don't like because of the color. But maybe it's worth talking to a tailor to see if you can build in a waist for it, like the caramel Burberry you linked to?

Good decision. No use buying clothes you don't love. Wait and save for the Burberry. If they made them in my size, I would be saving for one too

Glad you tried it, Una. Your new job is requiring you to think outside your fashion comfort zone, and that's good for all of us, I think. Trying things on and walking around in them a bit gives a chance to get a "feel" for how they'll make us "feel." Happiness factor is crucial, unless the only alternative is to be coatlesss in Alaska!

Thanks, ladies. What was an eye opener was trying them with the Gidigio boots, which I haven't been able to wear because of the weather. The minute I had them on I was thinking how much I love them and miss wearing them. There was no such sense of immediacy with the BB, like "I can't WAIT to wear this baby!" KWIM? It's a good litmus test for expensive/high standard items.

Glad you have made your decision and feel settled with it. I look forward to seeing the one and when you find it, it will surely be a great workhorse for you. Love the can't wait to wear it criteria.

I'm late to this discussion because I don't get on YLF much on weekends. I liked the BB on you but there could be something better for you. You have 90 days so you could hold onto it while looking, just in case. I'm off to read another of your trench posts now.
