Oooh, did you notice the back detail on the BCBG one, Suz?
I do think classic look - tucked and open necked - is the way to go here, though. The RL shirt with French cuffs might be a chic option.

I agree with DH, the skirt looks wonderful with the button down shirt. (I've always wanted to wear this look but it doesn't work on me). You will be perfectly dressed for the New Years Eve wedding.

Another vote for the first look. Very Angie/Carolina Herrera in the best way!

I'm with the crowd-- definitely a fitted tucked shirt look but dressier, and while all the inspiration looks are white, and that's " the look" instead of say a jewel toned satin blouse, , , I would explore non- white in case there's one that just works best in terms of fit and fabric and your coloring. For white to work best it needs to be "special" IMO and not just an everyday suit shirt even though the glitteratiI may be able to work that look. Also note the popped collars- so some shirts pop better or have collars that frame the face better.
But you are onto something fab.

The first is K2K, it only lacks some giant pearls and/or some sparkle(shoes/clutch/shawl), wow!

So, are you ordering/ trying on some new options?

Heading to Nordies during lunch break, Suz! If I don't have enough time, I'm going to see if I can get a SA to do some recon for me, and pop back tomorrow. I'll also check out BB, though I find I tend to get sized out in store at 10. I had no luck in the local shops, though I did get a sparkly top for my dressy capsule.

Those Anne Fontaine shirts (thanks El Cee) just slay! However I don't think there is a distributor in Canada. I though maybe Holts?

Will check The Bay/Saks as well, but the store is a jumbled nightmare and not conducive to speed shopping!

Wish me luck!

I think the first button down looks really great on you. Another one might look better, but if you can't find a better one, I think it looks fine, so long as you pile on some pearls.

Sounds like a fun wedding! I'm another one who loves the first look. I like the idea of a dressier shirt but if you can't find one I like the first with bling. I also think a softer color could work too.

The Bay stuff -- order online and have it delivered. Then you can try on at leisure with the skirt. Delivery can be really fast or slow, depending -- but returns are easy in store.

Here I am with my injured self! (No sherry yet ) I like the first, thinner shirt. Open at the neck and with big jewelry and it would be great. A satin, collared wrap shirt would also up the fancy

I've pinned that white shirt/ballgown combo on my secret Pinterest board for my not-yet-engaged daughter's possible future wedding, several times. Helen Mirren also wears a ballgown skirt with a dark blue scoop neck tee and looks fantastic. I agree you need a shinier and more fitted shirt, and wish you luck! Bad time to be shopping!
