I am still in search of a stylish and functional leather tote, ideally with a zip closure, for travel. I am still eying this one, but it doesn't zip (a problem when it gets tipped over under the plane seat):

Sorry to be unhelpful, but I like the first one. It's simple, straightforward and to the point - gets the job done. Not expensive .... I you find the one you want!!

AG - Have you seen the new feature on Zappos? If you click on an item, on the right hand side, there's a column listing other items that are visually similar. This might help you find a bag in your price range.

I have travelled with open-top bags and haven't had any issues. They were a different shape, though (the squarish Orla tall totes). It actually made it much easier to pull out the laptop and find things like my Purell.

I really like the first one and don't think it's boring. #2 is a little boring to me. #3, not my style but not boring either. Love #1 though.

I really like the first one. I think that you need a shoulder strap when you travel. I know that I do. I also think that black is a great way to go for traveling or maybe grey.

I definitely think that you are on the right track.

I like stiching all the way, and would rather have the first one in taupe(brown?) Love the black on the edges. Thus, I don't know if it hasn't a zip...this is an issue for me, too.

I like the first two. I carry totes and prefer them if they have that magnetic closure vs. a zipper, but if the lack of a zipper is a deal-breaker for you, then I'd say to keep looking!

Jonesy, can I ask why you prefer the magnetic closure? I once lost a phone and a pair of glasses this way on a plane, so I'm leery, but perhaps now that I'm not wrangling an infant it will be better...
