Ha, Dee, that is it, exactly. My hair had got to the point where it was definitely in charge, or the weather was, and the weather was so unsettled! Wind, humidity changes, you name it, it caused a problem. I could tame it with blow drying and straightening iron, but I don't enjoy doing that multiple times a day.
That's it, Carla! Like a little boy's buzz cut in back. Or almost.
Roberta, thank you. The top is a consignment find -- it is a Diane von Furstenberg silk and cotton leopard print cardigan, in new-with-tags condition when I bought it for all of $20 or thereabouts. I've worn it a lot! The fabrication mix is fantastic in spring and autumn weather -- not too cool, not too hot. And the sweater feels very luxe on.
JAileen, Angie, Mirjana -- thank you! I really do like both lengths a lot as well and think that both types of pixie suit me (even though I supposedly don't have the right face shape for a pixie, at least according to Imogen, but whatever...). I like the longer aymmetrical pixie in winter, both for greater coverage and also because the hair tends to behave better for me in winter. And I like the shorter in summer for the freedom from styling woes, and ease of care. Because I wear fewer high necklines or scarves in summer, I also enjoy wearing statement earrings in summer and the shorter version is ideal for showcasing those.
Unlike Angie's, my hair does not have enough wave in a longer pixie to wave nicely when left to air dry -- it waves, all right -- but in a bossy way. If a bit longer and layered, my hair will actually wave quite attractively -- but medium length styles do not flatter my face shape for sure -- my jaw line is too long/ heavy so I end up feeling quite masculine if the hair ends at the jaw). Meanwhile, my hair isn't straight enough, esp. in humidity, to do without a blowdry and/or the straightening iron if worn in a longer pixie. Betwixt and between!
How we find the styles that work best for us, all things considered, is endlessly fascinating. I love how Carla, for example, has "winter hair" and "summer hair." Of course she can straighten her summer hair for specific occasions, yet the overall direction is one way in winter, one way in summer. Makes sense!
