What an interesting question and responses! I think there is a common theme here though, if you can afford it, the stage in life does not matter. If you would struggle or otherwise go into debt for it, then hold off for a little while. Maybe save just a little more. And I do think some items are more worthy of a splurge than others (a handbag, an outerwear coat, a pair of shoes, a watch or other jewelry) versus items that tend to be more disposable (a sweater, a top). This breakdown also included the items that I tend to get less tired of. I'll wear the same jacket for years and years, but I tire of tops quite easily. Thanks for bringing up a great question!

@krishnidoux: Okay, thanks for clarifying. I see your point. I'm just not able to invest in stocks at the moment for logistical reasons (can't access American sites because I'm not a resident, and have been having much difficulty with the Canadian sites, who will not use my US address). Michael Kors is doing really well, stock-wise. Thanks for your advice.
