Ask Angie: VC Skirt a good option for me?

Based on Marianna's post about popular YLF items, made me think about this skirt again. I've been considering either the VC tube or ruched skirt. I only see the ruched skirt in my size one place - guessing this is a discontinued style in missy sizing. Do you think either would be a good shape for me? I like this over a pencil skirt for ease and casualness. Do you think they both run fairly TTS?

Others, what say you about how this skirt has worked for you? TIA.

I love my 4 VC tube skirts. They are so comfy and I feel really put together when I wear them. I find the sizing to be very forgiving. When I bought mine a couple years ago I was much smaller. I can still wear the same skirts, but I wear them with oversized tops in longer length to camouflage the additional curves. I have both the regular and petite sizes as one particular color only had petite left. Not really that much difference in it and my others.

Love the skirts. They are perfect for those who have a casual style. Easy to dress up or down.

I agree with Angela on the sizing. It's super forgiving and they fit on the large side to begin with. I got regular vs. petite size and it worked for me at 5'4". In the first two skirts I got, I had to hem them a bit. But that was the earliest model; in the last 3 I got I never had to hem.

I really have to pull mine out and wear them again. I find them extremely body conscious though, which makes me laugh as others seem to find them not so. Maybe it's ME who is body conscious. Anyways I found them to be sized fairly generously . Btw - do you realize they are not hemmed ? i.e a raw hem? That took me aback at first, but I soon ignored it. It's not the dressiest skirt going but good for everyday , and the others say here. I didn't go for the ruched one, just the straight cut ones.

I have two and I love them. I found them to run large. I usually have to buy a large in slim skirts to fit my hips (I am a pear with L hips and M waist) and mine are both mediums and not even tight in the hip. I'd say the waist is true to size though, so I guess it probably depends on your body type. The double layering hides a lot of lumps and bumps. Mine are both regular length and just cover my knees - I'm 5'3.5" with long legs for reference.

One thing to note is that there are two different fabrics. Some are a rayon-based jersey, whereas others are a poly-based jersey. IMO the rayon one feels nicer and has a better drape, plus it's more breathable. I don't know about the current colors, but in the last few years the stripes and solids were the rayon jersey whereas the non-stripe prints were the poly.

ETA: Mine are both the unruched ones.

In my own (limited) experience, not all tube skirts are created equal. Some are literal tubes -- those ones go way beyond body conscious to ...ugh. At least on me!

Lisa, I do find the VC skirt body con, but no more so than skinny jeans, and something about the layered fabric does a lot to disguise. Plus, many people wear it exclusively with longer, fluid tops. I've worn mine with that type of top, a pullover, a loose kimono and tank, and more fitted top on its own or with a denim jacket, as well as a boxy cropped top, and felt fine in it in all these combinations.

I have two in different fabrications. I dislike bodycon anything (no true skinnies in my closet), so I sized up and then had the waist taken in. My soft knit one is more forgiving than the other stretchy one that I bought in a non-petite size and then hacked a few inches off. With the latter I need to wear a longer fluid top since it seems to highlight my tummy. With the former I can wear an obi belt.

BTW, neither are ruched. I felt the solid ruched ones might show up pilling due to their fabrication.

Yes, Suz, you're absolutely right. I always wear something longish over my skirts, when I do wear them. They are very comfortable and easy to wear, that's for sure. Must get them out again.

I was looking on Macy's, and as Diana and others mentioned, there is a ponte one and a poly one. I may try them both, but I'm guessing I may prefer the former.

I think based on my size I will get the larger of two sizes. Hopefully that will help a little with the potential body con issue.

I'm not talking about the ponte vs. the jersey. The ponte is much thicker and stiffer and more like a pencil skirt, e.g. I would never wear it. The jersey is like pajamas.

What I meant was that the jersey tube skirt (in the find below) comes in two different types of jersey fabric. They are both very soft, lightweight, and forgiving, I just find the rayon one to feel and drape nicer.

ETA: If it matters, for me the jersey tube skirt is definitely a warm weather (bare legs) skirt. It sticks to all tights and leggings in my experience although not everyone seems to have this problem. I do wear it in spring and fall with boots and bare legs. If you wanted something that you could wear with hosiery, you may need to go with the ponte.

Hmmm. I have a ruched one and wore it a lot the first year I had it, but haven't reached for it since. I did always wear something on the longer side over it.

Yes, Diana's right -- the tube skirt is completely different from the ponte skirt. Some versions below.

Like her, I find it sticks to tights so it is a summer item only for me.

I have the ruched one and I love it.. just wore it again today and it never fails to get compliments. Like others, I wear it with something on the long side to cover my backside (a little bodycon for nursing home work). What I love the most is its comfort. I HATE waistbands as a general rule and avoid skirts for that reason, and pants as well. But that skirt really is like wearing pajamas. Highly recommend.

I have one and wore it a ton last summer and a few times this summer as well. I think it runs big. Easy to dress up or down and comfy. I am tempted to get the rouched one too.

I had the jersey stripe and never wore it. I ended up consigning it - a lemming fail -- but it was a nice item and one I really enjoy on others. I think for me it lacks the tailoring that I ultimately feel more comfortable in.

Viva - I can see what mean about a lack of tailoring. I think the stripe could work for me if the style feels flattering. Plus, I'm trying to lean away from black just because of my light colored cat

I like tailored looks, but sometimes feel too dressy in them for my super casual life. I often feel too constricted in them as well.

I have three, wear two of them a lot (thus the reason for my first para). I'd say they are TTS, not big. I am almost always a medium on bottom, and mine are mediums, and wouldn't want them any smaller.

Thanks for letting me know Elizabeth. The size I need is different though. I see many wear this skirt with a long top - is that how you wear them as well? I don't think I'll mind if it's curvy from behind as long as it's not too too thin. My decision may be if I like it from the front view.

I don't always wear mine with longer tops. I always wear something untucked, sweater or tee, but sometimes it's just hip length.

I don't always wear mine with long tops, either. I have even tucked into the skirt occasionally but I usually blouse the top over if I do that. But I've also worn a more cropped style top with slightly longer back. A hi-low top is brilliant with this skirt.
