Staysfit, many Fall weddings in Sonoma county have the guests sitting under umbrellas or some type of cover or they provide parasols. (Although that does tend to block the view!) If it’s at a wedding venue they will have a plan for the heat. If it’s at a private residence they may not. I think the silk dress would be awesome or Angie’s suggestion of a dressy breezy blouse with a skirt sounds great too. A Wine country wedding is a wonderful excuse to dress up! When else can we do that these days?

The choices you already have look lovely

Just wanted to throw this out there because someone else mentioned toppers, but Phase Eight's specialty seems to be dressy ones (cropped cardigans, boleros, jackets etc). So just in case you (or anyone else) wants a cover-up for a sleeveless dress, they do 'wedding guest' & bridal clothes well

Cat2, I did not get a refundable ticket. The ticketing process was an ordeal because I am coordinating my flight with my mother so I actually purchased two round trip flights! I am flying to Michigan a day early, spending the night with my mother and we are both flying to CA together (I’m going with her since she is disabled and cannot manage her luggage).

That reminds me that whatever I carry needs to be very light since I will be lugging both my luggage and my mothers as well! LOL! Fortunately, my mom is a seasoned traveler, and packs very light, so I’m not too worried. My brother is also attending, but he is traveling with one of his tween age daughters, so he is unlikely to have the attention needed to help my mom.

If there are fires, I will still go to Michigan and take a partial credit and use the other flight for something else, either another visit to my son in CO, or maybe a trip to FL in the winter.

Bijou, pretty top! I will take a look! Thanks!

Zaeobi, thanks for the suggestion. I will look here as well. I tried looking for toppers at places like Macy’s, Nordstrom, Saks, and had little luck. Using the search term poncho provided the best results. The terms Bolero, shrug, shawl, cropped cardigan, did not work as well.

Angie, I am definitely going to continue looking at outfits. I love the look of a breezy and pretty top paired with a pencil skirt. I did a quick search for pencil skirts this weekend and found mostly black or white skirts. When I found a color I liked, the material was synthetic. Would a knit skirt look too casual if paired with a pretty top?

Staysfit, if the knitted skirt looks pristine - no problem!

Nice pinks and lilacs from J.Crew:

I ordered this topper from Johnny Was, and had it shipped overnight. I love how it looks paired with the dress. It has the same floaty effect Angie suggested, and mimics a floaty top with a pencil skirt because the dress is a fitted sheath. It’s a bit out of character because of its boho vibe, although it looks great with my favorite Art Deco necklace. I am not sure about shoes….the dress reads navy more than black. I wish I had time to try it on but I am too busy until the end of next week when I will model everything.

Three shoe option I already own:
1. AGL navy and metallic ankle strap block heel sandals. DH does not like the metallic tone. It’s pewter not silver like the necklace.

2. Botoker mint green and silver slide sandals, not a great match for the greens and also not the best shoes for dancing since they fly off my feet.

3. Eileen Fisher flat silver metallic sandals- a bit stiff and currently tight across my foot, I may be able to stretch them…

4. Pedro Garcia sparkly sandals. May also be difficult for dancing and may be too sparkly. Although I will probably wear simple diamond stud earrings.

For the Max Mara dress I ordered a large cotton scarf that can work as a shawl. I like the dress paired with a necklace made by my aunt, (grandmother of the bride). I also like this scarf paired with my most comfortable heels.

Another option may be this sheer silk wrap with the Paul Green pumps, also very comfy. In this version I would wear the pearls my aunt gave me for my 16th birthday and some sort of sparkly earrings. Maybe the diamond studs (also from my aunt….a big theme in my jewelry!)

One final option I thought of may be this Eileen Fisher tiered dress. It’s not as flattering as the others but it is silk, light and will travel well. I like it paired with this Vince linen cardigan and my Earth shoes. Is it too casual for a daytime wedding?

I also like the more colorful pairing with my paisley print scarf as a shawl although I’m stumped about accessories except my silver and yellow bangle…..

I vote for the green topper, and the sheer gray scarf. How fun!

Cat2, those are my personal favorites also. Do you have a shoe preference for the charcoal dress or should I shop for some other options.

First outfit option with dark dress, sage wrap, and sandals with sage accents! Bag to match. But TRY IT ON FIRST!!!

I personally lean towards the second outfit, the Max Mara dress, cotton scarf and closed-toe shoes. Because, tbh, if one cannot show their shoulders to god, then I believe closed-toe is also a given. I also feel the soft pink is happy for a wedding.

I love these combinations and think when it comes to footwear you may be able to wear both outfits with your most comfortable heels, being photo 3 of the set with the pink dress. I would wear the pink dress to the rehearsal dinner and the charcoal dress and green topper to the wedding. Great to see you get your outfits from your existing wardrobe.

I like Bijou’s idea above about the 2 different dresses for the 2 events. For shoes I am with Angie, I love the silver and green sandals with the Johnny Was topper and the greens look matching on my screen, but maybe you need to picture them next to each other for us. I like the Max Mara dress with the first scarf and your “most comfy” heels. You are lucky if those are comfy, they look higher than would be comfy for me. The necklace for that outfit looks more interesting than the pearls, to me.
Amazing attention to detail. I like to do that also!
Have to just mention I am not keen on the paisley shawl personally? Not sure why? Doesn’t look quite as tasteful as the rest??

JenniNZ, I agree, the paisley scarf is not as refined, not really a good choice. I thought of it because I already own it and it is large enough to tie into a shawl, The other toppers were all new purchases and they are all items I think I can use in multiple ways. The greens may be okay since they are not right next to each other. In the meantime, I am trying to wear the green and silver shoes around the house to break them in and see if they will stay on my feet when I walk, etc.

Bijou, yes, that is what I’m thinking. The charcoal dress seems like it would be perfect for the wedding.

Rachylou, Do you think the pink dress reads conservative ladies who lunch? Or maybe go to rehearsal dinners? DH and I had the same concern about the shoes regarding coverage. Of course in this case the concern includes heads, shoulders, knees and toes! I am actively shopping for other closed toe options…
