Ask Angie (and everyone): Help! Interview Monday!

Hi everyone. I've been applying for jobs and I heard (unofficially) that I was going to be getting a call on Monday or Tuesday of this week for an interview. I took that to mean that they would call on Monday or Tuesday to set up the interview. With that thought, I took my suit to the cleaners today and they said that I can pick it up on Monday evening. Awesome.

Well, I got an e-mail today saying they want to interview me Monday. Oh no. So, I'm trying to put together an appropriate outfit. My BF (who told me about the job) has told me I don't need to wear the jacket (pic 2) because I'm not interviewing for a supervisor position. It's a temporary, part-time job. He said I'll be overdressed. Personally, I'd rather have the blazer and take it off if I want.

Without further ado, the outfit.

The shoes are slingbacks, but I think those should still be ok for the interview. I plan on wearing my silver watch, my gold and silver pearl necklace and my cz studs. I'm going to carry the black Kate Spade purse as well.

How does this sound? Please give me opinions and feedback.

I'd go with the jacket, especially since it seems you are more comfortable with one. Even if it is a temp job it's better they see that you take the opportunity seriously. With out the jacket the look is unfinished. The jacket at least isn't dark it says something about you, polished yet casual. If it were also black I would caution against it because it would look too formal. Good luck!

What a story! Good thing you have this great fall-back outfit.
I agree--I'd wear the jacket. You can always take it off if you feel better without it. But I've worked in part-time positions for several years now, and when I see potential employees come in for interviews, I'm always impressed if it's obvious they dressed for the interview--even though we don't wear jackets at work. You can't go wrong w/ the jacket, in my opinion. Your outfit looks terrific and fits you so nicely. Good luck!

If you want the option to take off the jacket, then I'd go with a long sleeve (or at least 3/4 length sleeve) blouse. But I agree that with the bright color, the jacket doesn't seem too formal. What about a belt?

Absolutely wear the jacket. It's a fun, happy colour, flattering to you, and not too formal. Without the jacket, I agree with DV that it looks unfinished.

jlyns - Good call on the belt. I have a black belt I can wear with it. It's not the prettiest belt ever, but I think it will work for this.

Hi! I agree and would wear the jacket too. It really doesn't matter if you won't have to wear one for the actual job. You look great. I hope the interview goes well for you.

Another vote for wearing the jacket. It adds a pop of colour and makes the outfit cheerful. You're dressed for business, but not so officey-managing-position-most-of-the-time-boring-outfit-style!

What's the word? Another vote for a jacket! As a musican, I am an experienced temp (lol)! I always dressed up a little more than the full-timers did, to help them see my value. Your look isn't at all stuffy -- the color keeps is easy and friendly.

Thanks Marie, Vicki, Jurocha and Beth Ann. I had my interview this morning and they said I should hear something by the end of the week. They also asked if they could contact my references, which I think (or at least hope) is a good sign!
